I am considering buying a Mapex Meridian Maple bass drum in the future. My question is about the bass drum tom holder. Does the tom holder go down into the bass drum? Also, is the "down" shaft 1 inch in diameter like older Mapex tom holders? I actually hope the answer is "yes" for both questions. Peace and goodwill.

You're in luck, the answer is yes to both questions.

Does Mapex make a virgin bass in the Meridian series or are they all drilled ?

The LA Fusion set has a 20 x 22 virgin kick.
This is a pain in the ass as I'd really like a virgin 18 x 20 =/

Thanks for the responses. My plan is to get a Mapex Meridian Maple 22x18 bass drum when I save up enough money. I can use it with my Gretsch Catalina toms. I know I can get a Gretsch bass drum, but I would rather have a Mapex. Eventually, I will get Mapex toms too. Peace and goodwill.

It would be a lot cheaper to wait, and do it all at once.

True that. However, I do not want a Meridian snare, and I almost always use only two toms. It may be awhile before I can save up enough to buy either just a bass drum or a shell pack. Thanks for the input. Peace and goodwill.

You could use the snare as a side snare or sell it off...

According to the Interstate Music catalog, buying a 22" bass drum, 16" floor tom, and 13" rack tom would be about $1000. A 22/16/13/12/snare shell pack is $797, and that includes a tom holder. It will take me several months to save up that much gig money, but I have patience. Peace and goodwill.
