I am fairly new here. Hope this is the right place to post this. I was just curious as to what people take out on any given night. I know alot depends on the size of the venie or what style you play and even those who cant seem to downsize their lit. Any thoughts and or pics would be interesting. I mostly do the bar gigs and keep it small but I play alot of rock. Have at it.
Thanks

More often than not, I take a 4-pc on local gigs. The sizes vary depending on the gig and often the venue, and the particular drums vary depending if they'll be miked or not. But I have the necessity and luxury to keep a number of kits around. Here's a kit I took on a gig last Saturday:

13/16/24"
If I had to choose just one configuration on every local gig, it would be 13/16/22"

For Rock gigs or large rooms I take my Ludwig Legacy Classic Liverpool 4 set 22/13/16 with matching snare drum. This is my favorite kit I own as well.
For my Swing band gigs and Jazz quartet and trio gigs, I take out my DW Jazz kit 18/12/14 with my piano Black Lacquer 5 x 14 Ayotte snare drum.

I gig with a 4 piece - 12, 16, 22, snare. Hats, 2 crashes, ride, china. I have the matching 10, 13, and 14ft from the kit as well. One of these days...

I've got a five-piece kit, and a nine-piece double bass kit. Depending on what I'm doing, it could be anywhere in-between those two. But usually I make do with 4-pieces, and now that I've found a nice 30-year-old Light Ride, I can probably make do with just that and a pair of hats. When I sing alot, I'll get rid of the rack tom too.

I always play a four-piece kit with four cymbals (ride, hats, two crashes). Both of my kits have a 12" mounted tom and a 14" floor tom. The Pearl Export kit has a 22" bass drum, and the Gretsch kit has an 18" bass drum. I used the Pearl kit on the last two gigs, but I am using the Gretsch kit on the next two. I am considering selling the Pearl kit and just using the Gretsch kit for everything. I have a good bass drum mic (LOL). Peace and goodwill.

I have a 7 piece Zickos kit, 12",13", 14" rack toms, 16", 18" floor toms 22" bass with a variety of snares from which I can choose. Generally I use it as a 5 piece but sometimes I use all 7. For small combo gigs I use the 18" floor as a bass and take the 12" and 14" (as a floor). I usually take one or two rides and three or four crash/splash along with my hats. It just depends on the gig, venue and what I what to drag around.

4 PC. Tama superstars. It seems many use 4 PC kits. I love em.

Drums are Sonor Jungle Set (not the snare though)
Cymbals - depending on music being played can be up to 2 rides - 2 crashes + hi-hats.

My kit is a 9 piece double bass however, this past year I have been rather quickly downsizing. It t is now a bonham style 1 up 2 down 13, 16, 18, 22 (not 26). I can always leave the 18 floor tom behind for an even smaller footprint. I miss the higher tones of the 10 and 12 but i can make up for any song on a 5 piece.

If I am carrying and loading I take the absolute minimum, unless the gig is 'important' and we have decent setup/breakdown conditions/time, then the same as studio kit, which for me is 5 or 6 piece with three or four cymbals, laid back gigs would be three/four piece and a couple of cymbals.

I gig with my Pearl Export ELX kit from the late 90s. Bought it used and it shows on some drums. I always take the whole kit, 12", 13", 16" toms and a 22" bass drum. Snare is usually my Dynasonic or my FF brass. I also carry my usual array of cymbals, 14" hats, 16 and 18" crashes and a 20" medium ride....all Zildjian "A"s.
My other kit, a Pearl Masters from 1997 with 10", 12" 16" toms and an 18"x22" bass drum stays at the house unless the gig is "special". By special I mean like our New Year's eve gig at a local Lions Club where I am club secretary. Otherwise it stays home.
The Export's fill the "bill" at the two main places we play and are by far, easier to transport. Not near as heavy as the Masters and that's a plus at 59 years of age! I have been considering downsizing the Export kit as I hardly ever use the 13" tom plus it will speed up my take down time at the end of a gig.
