K everyone it's time for a new kit and I really can't decide between the two..... Does anyone have experience with the Saturn cause I have the snare and it sounds awesome but I have not played the rest of the kit and I played the MCX just recently and it also sounded great I don't have a way to hear the Saturn though so I am curious before I make my purchase.

If you really mean masterworks, then that's gonna blow a saturn away. If however (and I suspect you do) mean pearl masters, then that's a different kettle of fish. Both are of equal goodness(?), but are like chalk and cheese in sound. Hear them both, and make a judgement on the sound, cos there isn't much else to distinguish them!

Prepare for battle.
I think everyone should just buy a Saturn so we don't have to see anymore of these comparison threads. Saturn gets my vote by the way, because it does not have Opti-Mounts or Pearl's tom arms and Mapex's hardware interchangeability is awesome. Floor tom to kick. 8" rack tom to kick. Kick to kick. What more could you ask for? Check out S4D's "bop kit".

I'd go for the Saturn. I've played an MCX at a gig and I wasn't impressed. Just an overpriced Maple kit and the hardware is sooooo jittery and annoying just like the rest of their kits and not to mention the finishes are pretty weird.
Saturns are a whole new level. I've played many Saturns and not a single one has sounded bad. They've all sounded amazing! They're unique kits and the hardware is so easy to set-up and not as frustrating as how I find Pearl hardware. Try and play one and see for yourself. That's just my opinion

Yeah, but masterworks is like pearls uber-custom stuff (like a sonor sq2) so you can have anything. If it is a masters mcx (a completely different kit!) I'm with you, saturns all the way!

If we are talking wood, both these drums, though different ply construction, will sound excellent. Pearl's maple shells are excellent, whereas the maple/walnut hybrid of the Saturns is unique and projecting.
The quality control at Pearl and Mapex are outstanding, I've yet to see a poorly cut bearing edge or out-of-round shell on either companies mid-high kits.
If we are talking hardware, dont go anywhere near the Pearl. Mapex really hit the nail on the head with the hardware on the drums, no tom mounts or spurs penetrating the bass drum shell. A vert clever idea that seems to be taken from the super-high-end Premier Signia's.
So what would I take? Saturn.

I agree with you that everybody just needs to get a saturn so that nobody has anymore of these Saturn v Starclassic b/b, Saturn v masters threads ;)
I think mapex should just give out free saturns to everybody in the world, I'd be up for that idea ;)

I'm sorry everyone I didn't mean to post something that was already discussed. It seems like I will be taking a shot in the dark and buying the Saturn. I have faith in this forum and that's why I left the decision up to you guys! Thanks for the info everyone :)
