View Full Version : Snares (Wy Yung)
I just saw Wy's impressive collection of snare drums, and noticed that a lot of them had very wide snares, 20 wires, forgive me if this is a rookie question, why? What does the additional snare wires do, is it just for volume, does it give better feel, bounce back?
Thanks

You get more "brrrrrr" for your buck. :)
Not all drums like it.
OK, thanks. What drums does it best suit, metal or wood, or is there more to it than that?
Spectacular collection by the way, do you play them or frame them!

I thought 20 or so wires was standard. I know you can get 40-strand snares too, but I don't recall seeing many with less than 20.

I have an interesting snare on my Gretsch Catalina Maple snare that came with my drum set. It's very narrow and doesn't have snares in the middle. I think it has 14 or 16 wires. I want to play with different snares. It does make a difference.
