I just ordered the kit today, looks like 8 weeks delivery. They have to be built. I have read lots of write ups all seem very positive. Any one have any head suggestions ? Speed king pedal ?.
Thanks

Not pertaining to "just" the Zep kit ... but acrylic drums are brighter and louder sounding, than their wooden counterparts .... It's a high-end drum kit, so any multitude of head combo's is gonna work .... finding what works for you ... another subject. I'd start out with Ambassadors reso. (my usual pick), and from there, CS (black dot), Powerstroke3, Emperor, and Pinstripe choices for batter. As far a pedal, whatever you're using now, should translate over. If you use a Speed King now, why change? On the other hand, to switch to a Speed King, simply because you now play "Bonham" sizes ... that's taking the Bonham-ite thing a bit too far.

+1 what Harry said, except to clarify that (I assume) he means the clear versions of all those heads. I generally prefer the sound of coated, but on clear drums I think it HAS to be clear heads, to complete the effect.

Some people use Evans Hydraulics for the batters. I was always curious what that would sound like, but never got around to trying it myself. Check out Zickosdrummer's new kit:

I own and use an original 1975 Vistalite set. 12", 13", 16" with 22" bass.
I tried the hydraulics and changed them all to EC1 from Evans. The hydraulics sound way too dead and I could not get proper stick response. I am very happy with the EC1 sound on the toms. I still use the hydraulic on the bass and it's OK but I think eventually I will change it to an EMAD. I like the black satin single ply on the snare. Has a better tone and sensitivity on the vistalite then a double ply (imho).
I would love to try a SpeedKing someday. I'm using the Powershifter from Pearl right now but I'm not satisfied with it yet. I may trade for an Iron Cobra.
I would love to hear what the new Vistalites sound like in person.

This is 1 of my DREAM Ludwigs kits(apart from a 73-75 amber vistalite with 20" ft) ! :).
If ya don't mind me asking how much brass razoo/pacific peso/dosh/dough &quid(bucks i'm using "aussie/ozzie" slang!) you paid for this kit?.Here in Australia the RRP(recommended retail price) is nearly $8000! :(
ta mate! :)

I've seen plenty of dudes (including myself) play a Vistalite kit with coated Emperors on the toms. Never really dug on the Black Dot sound too much and a Pinstripe head works with pretty much anything.

But yeah, a coated Emperor can really pull some tone out of those toms. If the aesthetic bothers you, oh well.

I think one of their reps told me that. I assume it's true. Too bad Ludwig can't crank out any other colors besides Amber for the Vistalite 26".

Yes, or offer more sizes. It's not like the shells aren't available.

They do offer the 24"x14" now in the colors they currently have. Or do you mean toms?
