Yo Leedy, welcome. I'm on the congaplace site as well... Not a lot of congueros here, but lots of kit players with interest in "latin" music. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would want to buy a set of your bongos here ;)

Peace!

Not really big on it, but do noddle with my dad's conga from time to time.

I own a set of "killer" bongos. The brand is Toca. Big full sound for bongos, they practically play themselves (I already see a lot of jokes in that). I also own a set of vintage Ludwig timbales. I've used both on gigs but mainly it pit orchestra settings. Don't own a set of good congas but would love to have some one day. Probably Toca to go with the bongos.

First comment in a while. I was just browsing.

I don't own any congas, bongos, or timbales (yet) but I love playing to Mexican music (if you councider that latin lol)

I just do what ever I can on a 5 piece set, a hi-hat pair, a crash cymbal, a ride cymbal, and 2 sticks.

I'd like to get some timbales, a snare drum, a better hi-hat pair, a better ride cymbal, and a couple of cow bells, and start a band in Mexico. But I'm still sorta of a beginner, not only do I need more practice, I need more time.

I'm latin (Puerto Rico) but I don't really play percussion, I dabble with it and it's in my future plans taking some classes but right now it's just drumset. My dad was a professional timbal player for a while, he toured and played with big names in salsa music like Frankie Ruis and Tito Rojas, he is still playing with various salsa bands and is pretty well known in the community.

I have a Djembe, Congas and Bongo that I play once in a while. You need to learn all of the ways to strike the skin, fingertips, palm slap, thumb, near the edge etc. These techniques will produce the best sounds and blend.

I have been told that natural skins need to be "turned down" during storage.

While I love my Matt Smith bongo and Drumskull congas, I have been spending more time with my Thomas Hood Shekere when the house is asleep and I need to be quiet.

LPLP brand instruments are the finest available in the world. No one can match LP's reputation for quality through uniqueness in design with authenticity in sound.

There are lots of custom drum makers and their customers who have had LP produst that might not agree with you. Here are some examples of instruments that I think are every bit as good as LP or perhaps better. I have a Shekere from this company:

And i have bongos from Matt Smitt:

And I would love a set of Volcano congas:

But I am happy with my Drumskull congas:

I own LP products and some of their instruments are quite good; but I do not agree with the statement that they are the finest in the world having played many of their competitors.

Consider looking at the Congaplace forum for similar discussions about LP being a stepping stone to higher quality instruments.

Hey Galvin
To be a Latin drummer does not mean that you have to play congas only. I for one am a trap drummer that has made lot's of money in the Latin field . In Latin music there is a lot to be learn that is the problem that members of conga place encounters they learn one tumbao and think they know it all. In the Latin fields there is so many versital rhythms that many just can't keep up with, and have concepts that conga, bongos is all to it.In many rhythms trap sets can't be applied and that one reason for learning other fa sits of rhythm which many do not. I also want to let you know that here more members contact me for purchases more that any other website also more information. The members here have more Class than members of conga place and respect peoples opinions. I do not post offend because I am working on my book and other topics but I do respond to private Emails to ( cuquito717@aol.com ). Gravin Nice to hear your comment if you need a question answered email me private I respond quicker.
