Hi:
I have a serious dilema on choosing a ride and a hi hat. The music I play is from Led Zeppelin, Jimy Hendrix and The Doors to MGMT, Kasabian and Franz Ferdinand, but in between I love playing blues and soft acoustic sessions. As you can read I play a lot of music (i dont like music like dream theater, metallica, slipknot or that type of groups)

So my dilemas are:

14 New Beat hats V/S 14 K Custom Session hats

21 Armand ride V/S 21 K Custom Hybrid Ride

I listened all of this cymbals but y need some good advice from others drummers... Im a very indecisive person!!

Thanks!

I love the K custom hybrid ride and if you like it I say go for it.I have the 20" and IMO it rocks.
The session hi hat is really cool but I also recommend you to check the 13.25" hybrid too.

Based on your choices i would not recommend the session hats. They are too quiet for the music you want to play. The New Beats are ok but have you considered a pair of Armand hats? Both ride choices would be ok.

The 20" K Hybrid crashes like a champ. I would go for it just for the versatility. I have a 20" A Custom that I like for this reason as well...

Im going to consider it now. Why the armand and not the new beat?

the Armand series would work well for what you play, they are bright, but warm, and thin and medium-thin weights allow for a more sensitive touch, worth checking out...

No one mentioned them, thought i would throw it out to you. Nothing wrong with new beats.
Both hats are great!

my votes:

14 New Beat hats : one of the most versatile and best sounding hh ever

21 K Custom Hybrid Ride: I love everything about this cymal, is like having two rides , it has the ping and the crash capability

I don't think it's a bad ride. I've messed around on one a few times. I found it to be a little washy. Not exactly my kind of ride, but it depends on what you are looking for.

I have the 21 k hybrid and love it very versitle. Like you i play many a genra and even use it in heavier music as well. For the hi hats i use K Custom high defs and they are also versatile. I own a pair of new beats and they have there place but i would go with the Ks if i were you.

I have a new set of New Beats and I really love em.
They are super versatile and would be good for any kind of music .

I have the New Beats. I really like them. Very pronounced sound and loud when you want volume.

BUT...

I would recommend you try out the Armand hi-hats. They are the most versatile hi-hats I have ever played. I've used them for rock, fusion, jazz...they always work. Just a thought.

new beats are just your standad versatile hihats. the reason im not a big fan is i feel they don't have much character or complexity. i realize that thats not always something you find in hats, but these are just.... lukewarm to me.

most love them though. and both rides are winners. you could by both. theyre both potential crashes.

happy hunting

K Sessions are really not going to satisfy in that role. They're a little loud, they're a touch dry, and kind of heavy.
I also think modern new beats are too heavy.
I'd consider either the 14" Armands - they're thinner and more versatile and generally pleasing to the ear, or some old New Beats from the 70s.

On the ride of those two I think the Armand is a little closer; the 21" Sweet Ride is a slightly more "modern" sounding version of it - a little heavier, a slightly more pronounced high. You could probably do fine with the hybrid ride, but if you're looking for the classic A sound, you should be looking at As. :)

the sweet ride is more "pingy" or washier? I think I will go with the armand hats... is true that mitch mitchell uses the armand hats (of that time of course)?

Not quite true. The Armand line wasn't introduced until 2007 or thereabouts. However, they were designed to replicate the sound of the vinatge Avedis line which he used. Of course, it's possible he used Armands just before his death, but certainly not on any of the Hendrix recordings.
