what would happen if i put a rivet in my bottom hat? would it make the sizz le last longer? and would sizzle when im playing the hats tight and closed? because im a fan of really clean, dry cymbals, and i think i could get a sweet sound out of riveted hats. anybody who's done this, please comment

I've played Sabian Sizzle Hats for over 15 years, started on 14" and just recently switched to 15" about nine months ago.

I really like them. They definitely add extra hiss and sustain to sloshy half-open playing, and I like having the option of just tapping the bottom cymbal for a sizzle effect.

When you're playing the hats tight and closed you don't really notice the rivets at all, maybe just a slight hint of rattle.

A while back, I spent an evening watching Adam Nussbaum play with the Eliane Elias trio. I sat maybe 3 feet from his kit.
He had rivets on all of his cymbals, including his bottom hi-hat. It did add a nice amount of 'sizzly' slosh to his hats. When he closed his hats, it practically muted the rivets; you couldn't really hear them at all.
