Yea it doesn't get anymore American than a Ranch style house :)
Unfortunately though now those houses are less popular and are more expensive than houses with 2 or more floors. But seeing as I having crutches and all, I'd rather have my basement stairs as the only ones that I have to use on a regular basis :)

Wow, thanks guys. Answers:
We own the place. It's actually not that big. The only things you didn't see are the garage (crammed full of junk at the moment), the drum room (which you've seen plenty of!), and the spare bedroom. It's a three-bedroom place with a two-car garage and a tiny back yard. The slide in back is for the grandkids (of which I have four, but I'm sure there'll be more in the years to come). We live in a nice, quiet neighborhood with very little traffic on our street, but it only takes 5 minutes to get to the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard).

I'll be in Vegas March 5 - 9. I know where I'm staying. While I'm there, I'll be catching Clint Holmes' backup band (and part of Wayne Newton's). They've got this standing gig (or they did a year ago) w/o Clint and the band rocks. Good stuff.

Very nice...more like my dream home there! Asheville is pretty nice...my wife and I used to drive out to the Blue Ridge mtns every now and then. Hendersonville has these big Apple Festivals that we liked to attend. In fact, the music shop there on the main road is where I played my first Roland E-kit...hooked from that point on and finally bought mine in Fayetteville where we lived at the time.
I have to resize a couple of pics of my pad...then post soon.

Will do! *lol*
I wonder how often they update those satellite photo's. Below is the one over my house. It has to be atleast 15 years old or so because
1) The deck on my house doesn't look to be there, as it was put on around '93.
2) There is some unknown structure on my property that isn't there now
3) My neighbor's house which I think was built around the same time as the deck, looks to be just the foundation in the photo
How many here have a designated music room or area in their house? I have a mostly finished basement and I made one section into a music area of sorts. It almost didn't happen though :) When we looked at the house, I made the comment to my wife that I wanted that area as a music area and she said no, that I was going to use the workshop we have. She wanted us to have a game area too and I thinks he was afraid I'd take over the whole basement :) It's a good thing too because our workshop isn't suitable for anything but storage and tools. Too crowded for my drums and most importantly it can get damp in the summer. I'll post some pics later if anyone is interested :)

I made one from the old oil heating system room, approx 10'x11' made a bit of soundproofing with sonopan board plus gyproc and finished the decoration with some cool posters and souvenir from my band. Enought for my kit and a specific corner for practice pads.

Thanks Bobhead...I've spent a lot of time getting it just the way I like it. A fridge may be in the works! Believe me, I spend a lot of time down there. Every morning for drums/workout before work, and a lot during the weekends. I put up some boards that swing down from the joists (just clipped out of the pics tho) and enclose the drums. I'm getting some sound foam to put up on the walls to help limit the sound when I play acoustic and for some possible future recordings. I'll get a pic of the boards down this weekend.

Nice pad Stu. I should get some pictures of my house up, but it's too much like effort. A late Victorian detached house that was used as the builder's showhouse. Five bedrooms, two storeys, two attics and a cellar. It's a nice house and well isolated from the rest in terms of sound.

Why is this thread not somewhere in the 'Your Place' section, like next to 'pic of yourself'?
Here is the Womble abode. Obviously it's not mine, it's my parents, but since they don't live here most of the year I can't think of much reason to move out. The last pic is where I'm sitting right now. And the mirror's there because I often do pad practice while in this chair. Honest.
Stu - I love the look of your place. It makes me very nostalgic for the north of England.
Stu_Strib
04-20-2006, 07:28 PM
And Womble, I prefer the very modern look of your home! Let's trade!
The best thing about mine is that I have my own parking lot (rare in England) because of the little building on the left..the house belongs to a church and they use that little building every once in a while.
The other best thing is my neighbors are sheep or dead (cemetary).
And Karl, I've always lived in the suburbs or medium sized U.S. towns, except the year I lived in Stuttgart. That was a BIG town for me.
This is my first time living in the country.

So it's not your house anymore - but not a great loss.
We Europeans can't understand this kind of buildings over there in the USA. This house was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and looks like a house from the 17th century. Also some parts are early 18th century and the garden is Louis XIV.....lol. Ok, different cultures and no history of architecture over there - we would call it "Kitsch". The times houses were built like that, the Americans only had Wigwams....

Ouch, Bernhard, that's a little bitchy! The house might be a hotchpotch of different architectural eras but my first thought was still, 'Wow!! And it looks European - cool'. It's not like we in England only build ultra-modern houses these days. There are plenty of mock-tudor and neo-Georgian places going up; some are horrible, some aren't.

I didnt even look to see where dogbreath was from, I could tell by the first picture that he lives in vegas. I grew up in Vegas and moved last year to tucson.
the starter of this thread said that he wants to live in vegas? NO YOU DON'T. its a place to visit, not to live. its ssooo materialistic. all the fake lopsided b-oobs make you gag. also, all the houses look the exact same. dogbreaths is about the most diverse one Ive seen.. yet.. only by the fact that he has some greenry. all the houses are at max 15 feet away.
I dont know how you said you only live 5 min.'s away from the strip.. because I lived 1/2 mile from circus circus and it took atleast 5 min.'s to get there...
anyway, my parents live nextdoor to sickfreed and roys (sp?) mansion across the street from the meadows mall, and its got to be the OLDEST few houses in vegas... even then, its not so amazing. unless you like 115 degree weather and hopefully you have airconditioning in your car!
Dear god are all you guys porn stars or something? Some of these houses/cars are insane!
I don't have pics but I live in a house about 20 miles from the nearest town on the lake. I've got my drums in the guesthouse (a kind of small house for when people visit) which is attached to a 2 car garage, I'll take some pics when I get back from school in february.

4 bedrooms,
4 1/2 baths
kitchen
family room
living room
dining room
grand foyer
study (my dad's)
as my mom still calls it a "playroom" I call it the "workout, tv, computer, homeschool room"
unfinished basement where my drums are
2 car garage
laundry room
all in brick 2 stories
But FYI: I'm not rich! My dad had a good couple of years a while back at his work.

You most certainly did. There was (up until 2 months ago) a huge Virgin Megastore in the big 8 story building on the right side of the pic you quoted, and the Berklee bookstore is visible in my first pic, two to the left of my building, just past the little liquor store. You can just barely make out the red sign naming it as such.

That's cool! I think I bought the first Afroman album out there. It was a promo copy not for resale. hah! I think I bought it cuz I liked the cover- hadn't even heard his hit song yet. It's funny that I discovered him out there. Later on I found out a friend of mine who used to throw parties in Mississippi had him play once.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to take a tour of the campus. They said I had to come at a certain time and go with a group. A friend of mine graduated from there. I always wanted to attend but the tuition is just a bit beyond my budget. heheh
I bought beer in that liquor store. Quite a disservice to chop off Jack's Drum Shop in the picture.
Isn't that the old Tower Records in the other picture? Jazzgreg?

I didn't mean to chop off Jack's, it's just that I didn't get it into that shot. I'll go out tomorrow and do it "a service." :-)
And it is the old Tower Records in the other shot. Virgin bought it out some time before I came and now the Virgin Megastore is gone too (soon to be replaced by a friggin Best Buy, d'oh). Those everything-format music stores just can't compete with what's available online nowadays.
Oh, and that liquor store just went out of business two months ago. No more 40 second long trips to get alcohol...ugh. at least it will be forever documented in the movie "Mystic River."
The times they are a changing. You're on the corner of Boylston and Mass Ave, right? There's a liquor store right down Mass Ave. I bought beer there too. Two minutes away.

Yeah, that's the one. Joe Hunt and I singlehandedly cleaned them out of their Jazz section when they announced they were going out of business. Did someone say Virgin was being replaced by a BEST BUY?! Oh man, I am so glad I don't live there anymore. I used to live on Newbury just a few blocks from there. At least they still have an enlarged Newbury Comics, right? I found I bought a lot of stuff there too, they had a pretty good selection that was only getting better, if I recall.
Jacks is an amazing shop, Greg always too care of me with whatever I needed, those guys are stellar. Yeah, that liquor store was in the move 'Mystic River', I remember them filming it. We were looking for Dirty Harry and Greg from Jacks said he had just seen Clint in Dunkin' Donuts (just outside of the pic).
Also in the pic that shows Tower/Virgin, you can barely see it, but there is there is a great little cafe called 'The Other Side Cafe' (yep, for real). Great beer and coffee's, but the place always smelled funny.
Possibly most importantly is the record store- Looney Tunes that is right beside the Dunkin Donuts just outside of the pic (behind it). I spent a serious amount of money in that place...
These pics make me sad, I do miss that place...

Time to feel a bit more sad!
the Dunkin Donuts vacated about a year ago (there's one around the corner), now replaced by "Teriyaki House." And Beantown Cleaners was where the convenience store now is.

A Drums? The owner of that is a complete idiot and total a**. He (or she) will remain nameless so this post can not be deleted.=) His (or her) store used to be somewhere else, out near B.U. I think.
Of course I've eaten in Little Steve's and yes, I was when I did=). By the way, I don't mind saying now, I used live at 227 Newbury, basically above the best pizza ever, Newbury Pizza.

About the Other Side, it's still run by the same people as far as I know. The whole first floor of the building it's in was painted that funky mango color last year, and since it's winter out the deck is devoid of furniture, so that's probably why you thought it looked different.
And Gregg, I've got some bad news, which I didn't learn about until just now either: Newbury Pizza just closed (http:///www.chowhound.com/topics/348450) a month ago. Too bad... I never ate there, and was curious to see if your claim was true. D'oh.

Here's my mom's house. She and my step-father live on an island north of Seattle and they own the property that the house is on. They designed and built the house themselves (with a work crew and an architect, of course). They are both cooks and artists; the second floor of the main building is one large art studio, and the kitchen and dining room together are almost the size of my whole house.
They are surrounded on three sides by forest and they have a view of the Pueget Sound and the mountains beyond. The trees around them are about 80 feet tall. This little picture doesn't do justice. Click here (http://members.cox.net/allgood7/HouseFinal.jpg) to see a much bigger version.

Let's see...set up the drums on the deck, a little ice tea (or the beverage of your choice), perhaps a good book.....

Wimp...
I live in Massachusetts so we get hit with everything, not just snow, sleet, ice storms, a mix of more or less everything. I don't mind the snow except for driving in it, but now that I don't work any more it doesn't bother me. Having to drive to work in a blizzard to go to a job you hate anyway made it even worse. I don't even mind snow blowing it though. I actually enjoy that to some extent.

It looks very nice...and hasn`t Tennessee got a beautiful landscape?? I just have the chance to envie it on TV when they play the Tennessee Whiskey ad... :-)

Yes! I love it way more than Southern California. Across the street is a huge part of land and it backs up against protected forest. So it's real beautiful.

Wow, the standard here is high... You guys are lucky, know that.
I don't have a picture of my current place at the moment. Not that it would look good compared to these other castles.

Thank you Karl. I try to keep it simple, you know? After all, many of us are a job loss or sickness away from financial trouble -- I try to live within my means. ;)
