Someone please tell me about this kit. I cant find any videos of it on the inet, yet alone any reviews. Is it a good kit, and better than a Pearl Vision?

The Keystones took *top* honors at the summer NAMM.... so, yes, I'd say they're pretty nice drums.

Two configs, four pretty cool finishes. They're not out quite yet... so you'll not see much on them for another month or so.

What would be better than, a Ludwig Keystone Series (24x14 13x9 16x16 18x16) or a tama starclassic maple custom (24x16?18? 13x10 16x16 18x16) I have a half off coupon for the tama so itd be a little over $2,000 or so

tama starclassic maples are beautiful drums but the ludwigs are beautiful & loud I want too get a set as soon as I can afford them same sizes you're looking at.

If you went with the Ludwigs you would have about $500 extra dollars in you're pocket.
something else too consider.

Do the Keystones have that "vintagy" sound? Or does it sound somewhat modern?

Do the Keystones have that "vintagy" sound? Or does it sound somewhat modern?the 24" kick drumset has vintage sizes I haven't. played them yet through, I'm guessing it's a mix of both since they have the ludwig maple plies but with red oak plies also.

Since I don't know of anyone that owns a set yet I can only guess, but I'd imagine these are going to sound more modern, with oak plies (something Ludwig has never used before) and cutting a double 45 bearing edge instead of their classic cut edge.

A couple of people over at DFO have played them, they like ludwig in general over there.but the consensus was they are real sensitive(5mm shell) and have good lows and a lot of bottom end, speak up quick and get out of the way quickly also, plenty loud for modern rock volume levels.they were supposed to be delivered to customers early june, but as far as I know everyone over at DFO that ordered a kit is still waiting.A lot of the lower Ludwigs sound Ludwiggy to me so I would not be supprised if these did too,but I think they are going for a different and more modern sound.

From the description in the catalog the Keystone Series will probably sound a bit less "Ludwiggy" than the other lines. The shells are 3 ply maple core plus an inner and outer single ply of red oak. The bearing edges are cut at 45 degrees on both sides as opposed to the more rounded bering edges on legacy shells. Their supposed to be a "louder alternative".

Their made at the Monroe, NC facility, and I'm sure their very good drums.
