Hi guys,

Here's a cool little video from the Bonfield Yttergren Project. Was a reeally biig budget video, this was... :D

Not really a drum video of course. :)

"It's old sounding, it's unfashionable, it's long-winded, it's progressive, it's got more than 3 chords, it's not radio-friendly, it's not on Idol...it's the way we like it, it's BYP!"

Cheers

It's a big download, Nergretty. Have you thought about uploading it in YouTube?

I'm sorry, but I didn't like this at all :-/ I think the video doesn't make much sense, the background for each member has nothing to do with the other, the progression was too slow, and didn't make sense to me either. I just didn't get it. The sound quality and the playing are obviously good and tight (specially the guitar), though. But I felt the song was too long, didn't connect, and had a very draggy feel about it. Hope the comment's any good for you.

Hi Fox!

Thanks for you honest feedback. It's all good. Your view though is very contrasting to the first I got on another forum:

"That was incredible! I got tears in my eyes and you managed to render me speechless at the same time! Oh my!"

Different tastes eh? ;)

However, I do agree that rhythmically the song doesn't sit exactly where I (emphasis on I) would want it. But I recorded the drums playing dead on the click and a zillion overdubs later the groove of the song is not as good as the drums felt initially. Tricky though on such a slow song.

Glad some people like it then, that's great. And yeah, the guitar was great, the drums weren't bad, they were pretty much spot on, just didn't feel right all the way. But still, the sound, as I mentioned, is quite good and professional, and the music, while a little draggy, and if people have liked it, is obviously NOT bad music. I'm sure even you aren't proud of the video however :P But I'm not sure if it's the kind of music you could just post yourselves playing to it, either. Perhaps a simpler, but tighter approach would had been better for the clip.

Thanks for the YouTube, Negretty. I tried to make a comment last night but my browser hung when I clicked the button.

The vid is good for a cheapo. The music is pro sounding and classy. More mainstream than I normally listen to but the instrumental section was really enjoyable. Your drumming was very good - tasteful, solid as a rock, good sound and generally spot on.

I think this is touching close to superb, but needs a range of minor tweaks to elevate it that last 5%.

The good;
Choice of tempo & tempo control.
Guitar arrangement and sound.
Melody & hooks.
Main vocal.
Simple drum track.
Brave fast triplet fill at 3:15
Lovely slowdown fill at 3:40

The not so good:
Groove just not quite there.
Lack of tension & release dynamic.
BV's a little heavy & burdensome in the chorus.
Too much cymbal wash.
A little slow to get up to speed.
Bass guitar needed to both pulse & flow. Fretless may have added some flavour.

Overall, I think this is a very promising "work in progress". I actually liked some of the video concept, but the execution was a little disjointed. Keeping the monochrome feel through the piece might have offered better continuity. Enjoyed that very much, & I think the basics are all there. Some work on arrangement, progression & dynamic would be a great focus going forward. You should be very proud of your achievement.

BTW, the video is just a fun little experiment and not meant for commercial release (obviously)

:D

I really thought the songwriting was the highlight of this video, some nice melody over some interesting chord changes.

I feel as though I'm just summing up what KIS posted by suggesting a producer could help with some of the things that need cleaning up. The song is good, it has potential to be great but would benefit from some refinement.

I thought your drums were quite suited for the song, for the most part I didn't notice them and remained focused on the melody. A great example of playing for the song.
