Looking to see what the difference would be between remo clear emporer and remo coated emporer? I am using clears now and wonder if the coated would produce a warmer sound?
Thanks

That's exactly what a coated emp will give you mate. An overall warmer tone.......and slightly less attack.

Don't be surprised if you can't tell the difference. I've switched clears and coated Emperor's A-B style immediately on the same drum, both heads were used, I honestly couldn't hear a difference. Theoretically you'd think (as I did too), but I found it just ain't so.
Maybe 'brand new' you'd hear a slight difference.
Not worth the buy if you already have clears IMO.

"Slight" is the key word indeed. You're right Les, in that they are not worlds apart, but to my ear the difference is there. I can definitely hear a more 'punchy' sound with the clear emps and a 'warmer', more 'rounded' tone with the coated.
I've swapped between clear and coated for years.......then again, the fact that I've never been able to actually prefer one over the other could well denote an element of truth in your statement.

Great points and that was exactly what I was looking for. "Slight" versus noticeable and i don't know if I can cost justify swapping my clears out since I just put them on...

In the case of new heads out of the box, slight 'is' the key word, but with used heads the key word is 'honestly' as in... "I honestly couldn't hear a difference."
Coated Powerstroke 4's 'will' sound noticeably darker than coated Emperors

I bought Coated Remo Emperor heads for all my toms and snares. Their very full, not as tinny, a bit less attack, and their very warm drums. They sound great tuned high or mediumish. Not great for a low tuning though.

2 ply heads you're not gonna hear much of a difference. Clears will produce more attack, coated will give you more of a warmer rounder tone. But only a little bit.
1 ply you notice more of a difference. Not sure why, but I always do.
