Ok, so I just ordered the Pearl floor tom -> bass drum conversion thing: I plan on using a 16x16" as a bass. I have a coated Ambassador as the batter head and a clear ambassador as the reso. I play primarily jazz and was thinking of a FiberSkyn reso and (if possible as per suggestion) keeping the ambassador batter. I'm wondering which FyberSkyn as a reso: PS3, FD, FA? I'm looking for a nice warm tone with minimal attack.
Furthermore, it's time for a new snare batter. I'm going with a FiberSkyn Diplomat, but what is a nice snare-side reso to (once again) minimize attack and produce a warm tone? Normally I'd just shell out the bucks and try out different heads but as of 1 Dec. my health insurance was cancelled because I'm no longer a full time student: I'm taking time off from school for health reasons--trust me that the irony isn't list on me--an paying out-of-pocket for my medication sucks. Being thus, I can't afford to buy a bunch of heads to figure out what I need.
Your suggestions--and hopefully a place to buy them online cheap--will be much appreciated.
