Question on match grip and the moeller technique
Should I keep my thumb and index finger over the stick or just your thumb? Maybe I should let the stick ride between your thumb and index finger and just control it with the fulcrum. When I use my thumb only, I get a nice solid bounce but I do not feel in control of the bounce when adding the index finger I gain more control but it causes me to have a weak bounce. I’m always able to get a good turn of the wrist snap. I have Jo Jo Meyer’s DVD and I can see his grip change as he increases in speed. I fend that guys like Jo Jo Meyer and Benny Greb seem to have a similar body type thin and flexible. I’m not heavy but I’m also not very flexible and it really hinders me when playing match grip any thoughts on building flexibility in my lift arm and wrist?

That's what is going to happen. The index finger will focus the stroke. You should really be able top to do both. You can get a nice bounce with an index finger fulcrum. You can also get a focused-controlled roll with a middle finger fulcrum. It takes daily work over the course of years. .

Practice a rebound with an index finger fulcrum with 2s, 4s, 8s 16s.

What are you referring to when you say middle and index finger fulcrums? Could you explain?

Either your fulcrum point, the point at which the stick moves freely up and down, is controlled by placing the fulcrum between the index finger and tunmb of letting the index finger extend freely and relying on the movement between the thumb and middle finger for our fulcrum point. In Moeller, it is the later that is used.

Look at Jim's index finger here;

It is actually a lot of finger technique is used. Jojo says on the video that Chapin taught him that the pinky was the strongest finger.

Here check out Tommy Igoe for the index finger fulcrum
