You know that song called Triad by Tool.

At the start (about 40 seconds in), it's most likely sampled, but there is this "Eeeeeeaaaeeeeaaahhhhh.........." sound, what the hell makes that sound?

Sorry if I"m a bit confusing...but I have heard this kind of sound in heaps of music (especially ambience) and it's so mysterious...

...what is it?

You don't need any effects for that sound.
