Hello,

I am going to give a drum presentation for my sons school in January and I am doing my homework early to figure out what I am going to tell them.

I am going to give four presentations, the groups will be grade 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8.

I know for the grade 7-8 I am going to show them the different beats..ie..jazz,rock, Latin..etc...and a brief history of the drums and a brief history of the drum kit.

For the other 3 groups I am also going to give a brief history of the drums and maybe what country uses what drum or where the basic drums originated from. I am also going to do the usual drum circle thing.

Other then what I above mentioned what do you guys think would a good topic to bring up? I don't want to get over technical or drawn out and bore them about how to tune a snare drum.

Any ideas would be appreciated, when I was talking to my liaison from the school I told them I was going to converse with my brain trust ie drummerwold forum.

Thanks guys

I do a lot of workshops in schools, but to offer advice, I need bit of clarification. Will you be working with the drummers in band class or doing a general presentation? I assume that since you are doing a drum circle, it is not a band presentation.

One question? Why not do drum set styles with everyone? I would think that the attention span would be better with the 7-8 grade so the history stuff with them might be more practical. But the younger kids' attention will be harder to keep, so the drum set stuff will be good for them.

Good suggestion about doing the set with everyone.

You are correct, this is a presentation not working on the band.
