Hi - I'm thinking about retro fitting Yamaha wood hoops onto my Yamaha Maple Custom kit (10x9, 12x10, 14x12). I want a warm sound, and use rim shots on my toms a lot so think this will be a good move BUT I also like a lot of sustain from my toms. I've heard that wood hoops can dry the drum out which I wouldn't want. Does anyone have experience using wood hoops like this? THANKS!

I just put Yamaha hoops on my snare. . and it did the exact opposite. . it opened it up alot. . . Wood is alot lighter than die-cast so i believe it allows the drum to resonate alot more. . . Youtube Steve Jordan and you can kind of get a feel for what it sounds like. . .I actually want to do this to my toms now as well, but i must save me pennies!!!!. .Hope this helps. . .Good Luck!
