Hi, my DW kit has a 16inch rack mounted tom which sounds great, and I have always loved it. Big boomy beast of a drum. Because of transport problems I am selling and changing to a russian doll type kit which comes with a leg mounted 16 inch. This will also help on stage because I can loose the side section of my rack.
But....I suddenly thought, is there any difference between the sound of a floor tom depending on how its mounted. Too late now either way the kit is ordered and should be on its way soon--just wondering if i will regret not thinking about it more earlier and getting them to do me a rack mount on that big tom.The drums have vertical grain and no dampening in the mounts, dont know if that makes any difference.
