Are Sonor Delites really worth the extra money? Yamaha Absolutes, Tama Starclassics, Pearl Premiums--all of these drum kits cost considerably less than a comparable setup in Sonor Delites.

I have heard that once upon a time Sonor made perhaps the best drums: the Designer series made in Germany. However, I don't think the SQ2 series has (yet) lived up to the Designer legacy. I know the Delites are just below the Designers/SQ2s on the hierarchy. Are the German-made Delites really that much better than the Yamaha Absolutes, Pearl MPs, and Tama SCs? Just curious what you all think.

YES!

Here's one of mine. They are sensational drums. But it is all a matter of taste.

If you prefer the Sonor sound over the others then yes.

There is no doubt there will be a fee to pay workers in Germany to put a kit together over and above those doing a similar thing in China, but Sonor runs a very tight ship and has flawless attention to detail.

For me (I have a Designer) it was about the Sonor sound and piece of mind, knowing that my gear is being constructed as good as can be by a company that has been in the game longer than everyone.

Sonor top-end kits are not about 40% offs, its about attining a level of quality second to none. To me, thats worth just about any pricetag.

Awesome drums. Designers were the last classic, stout Sonor, IMO, but the Delites definitely have the ingredients for the Sonor flavor sound.
