Have you bought those cymbals yet?

I would say the ludwig is the better kit in my opinon. The 100% birch shells being the main difference. The gretsch kit is made of basswood which is the cheapest of the cheap, these are cheap kaman taiwan shells probably. I haven't seen the newest edition of the blackhawk kit but they used to have really cheap hardware. The ludwig hardware is actually really nice.

Agreed! Drums aside, the 300 series Ludwig hardware is pretty nice stuff. It's not the cheaper hardware.
I've got the 315 foot pedal, and it's AOK.... I used to use a DW 5000 single pedal and hi-hat stand a while back, so I know what a decent pedal is. I have no interest in upgrading from the Ludwig pedal anytime soon. Ludwig hardware is *hugely* underrated on this forum.
As for the drums themselves, it'll probably be hard to beat that price for all that stuff. Birch is good.

thanks. i was leaning toward the ludwig but wanted some more opinions before i finally decided haha. i guess im the brett favre of drumming, except not legendary.
and to the mediocre guy,
i just turned 16 a few months ago and ive applied to like 9 places for a job. i have to make like $1000 working part-time on top of school, so thats kinda why i havent bought anything yet. i just want to get all of my choices arranged so i can get my gear as soon as possible.
and the guitarcenter near me sucks! i have to order all my drums/hardware online because they dont have it, so i cant really test it. they have my future cymbals though! im still torn between whether to get a 19" or 20" second crash :)
ive even decided what sticks i want. taylor hawkins signatures! so lay off me bro, im a man on a mission

I would buy neither and spend that same amount on a good used set.

Way to go! Brings back memories... and makes me feel old that I was exactly in your shoes about a year before you were even born (yikes!). Working at a hardware store, and saving my pennies for my first kit... which wound up being the most important thing I ever did in my life as it set me down a better path from where I was going at the time (which was nowhere).
I'll definitely echo GRUNTERSDAD's advice, and look towards a used nice kit on eBay or Craigslist. Times are absurdly tough right now, and lots of folks are selling *really* nice kits for dirt cheap.
Good luck!
