I have a new set of Mapex Saturns, and have put my old Pinstripe heads on in place of those being supplied.
I am wondering what the Evans G2 heads would sound like on them instead.
Has anyone else used both types of heads on their drums, and also what they prefured and why.

Actually, I just did exactly that today (just got my second of two boxes of Saturns in the mail a few hours ago :D)
The Pinstripes have a good punch and low end. The G2s are just weird, to put it plainly. They emphasize the high end alot and have a lot of ring. The sustain also seems about as long as with Pinstripes.
The only toms I'd consider sticking coated heads on are 12" and smaller, which I'm gonna try right now (the 12" Pinstripes have no meat to them and very little low end; maybe the G2 will give me something I like).
I'll keep you updated!

Yer thanks for that.
Never used G2 BATTER heads, am interested in what they sound like.
What size floor tom did you get, went for the 16 x 16 myself.
and 22x18 bass.
(Southend United have avoided administration and 10 points deduction) real result.

I have the Studioease setup: 22x18, 12x9, 14x14, 16x16. I have a 10x8 tom but I'm selling it, and the snare.
Anywho, a rundown of what I tried. They came with Emperors over Ambassadors (I think), and they were clear. They had a full spectrum of sound and sounded but ultimately not as deep as I wanted. The coated G2s cut out alot of the deep end and enhanced the ringiness, which annoyed me to no end. The Pinstripes are absolutely awesome. They really project that boom. The only drum I'm having trouble with is the 12" tom, but it's more a preference thing with me (floor toms are easy for me to tune, rack toms are a bit harder).
Hope the info helps. And I have a ton of extra heads (22, 12, 14, 16), if you want to grab some for cheap.

what do you have the pinstrpes over, because i;m looking for a nice deep boom sound, and i have the same problem as you with the G2's they just sound not right, they sound really round i guess, just too round. anyways thanks

Cheers for the info.
I think by the comments, i will stick with my Pinstripes, i have these BATTERS over the orginal Remo Ambasodors Reso's.
The G2's seem by yours comments a little bit high end and ringy.
Also have a Evans EMAD BATTER on the bass drum. not to bad, even threw my old pillow out.
Southend away to Gillingham on Sat 1st round of the FA Cup.
