ive heard good things about the gretsch catalina club kits from people on this forum so i am swaying towards this at the moment

but do you guys have any recommendations?

im kinda looking for a 1 up 1 down setup (maybe 10"/14"/20" and a 13 or 14 snare)

as i want to be able to have both my larger 7 piece kit setup in the same room as it.

also, if you have any cymbal recommendations for this kind of music, id love to hear it
im thinking about k/k customs at the moment

Definitely check out the Cat Jazz. GMS has a birch "city jazz" kit for a little more. Also worth checking out some of the new Ludwig Downbeat and Jazzette kits from the Epic, Epic X-over, and Element SE lines.

I just got a set of the new cherry/gumwood Element SE's, and they're just stupid awesome drums for the money.

As for cymbals, why go for simulated awesome with modern K's when you can go Istanbul! :-)

I've been seriously considering a Cat Jazz kit myself. I also want a 22" Agop ride to go with it.
The Sam Ash store near me just got some Cat Club Jazz kits in, they will set one up next week for me to try. I'm going to try an 18" bass Gretsch Bop Kit next week also.

eBay has Cat. Jazz kits all of the time for sale, both new and used.

I've been also comparing the Sonor Force kits with the 20" bass to the Cat club Jazz. I can't find any nearby dealers to see and play the Sonor's.
How do these compare to each other?
The Sonor 2007 Studio kit has a 20' bass, 8, 10, 12 rack toms, 14X14 floor, plus 14 snare for $800. The four piece Cat Club is $600. 12 tom, 14 Floor, 14 snare, 18 Bass.

The build quality looks similar. Sonor is birch. Cat Club is Luan. I like Sonor's finish and colors better. Two more drums with Sonor for $200. Two inch larger bass on Sonor.

LOOK< THE PRICE ON THE SONOR KIT JUST DROPPED $300! TODAY! It is now $500 instead of $800!

Just buy the Sonor kit ;)
Seriously, the build quality and hardware are great, and if you even like the finishes better, there's not much to discuss here...The sound is almost pro level with good microphones.

Fox.You are the forth member that said that I can't go wrong with the Sonor.
Thanks, I'll probably go for it. I started another thread so as not to hijack this one further.

I was looking at a Maplex kit at a Sam Ash store yesterday. The associate didn't mention this size configuration to me. I was impressed with the mounts and hardware on the larger size bass kit that I was looking at.
