hey everyone, i recently bought a pdp x7 and i plan on mounting my toms on cymbal stands, i was curious if i would be able to remove the bass drum mount, and if it would look professional, i also wanted to know if anyone on here has done the same thing, is there any repainting that i would need to do and also would the hole in the bass drum affect the sound, i dont want to use that mount because i would like to have a ride there because im used to playing a four peice and i find it much more comfortable that way, well any feedback would be apreciated

thanks

A guy on hear by name of SoCalMike makes cover plates for bass drums and toms. Send him a PM. Try a search for "virgin bass drum" and you should be able to find him. They look pretty decent. I think they're made of aluminum. I've also been considering getting some wood "badges/plates" made to cover up the area so it looks like it's slightly protruding.

Just remove the mount, and see if "you" like the look. At stage distance, most people wouldn't be able to even see it. A lot depends on what the color of the drum is to start with, whether it's gonna be real noticable or not.

I have a PDP CX and removed the bass drum tom mount. It leaves four small holes and one larger in the center. I installed a rubber grommet in the larger hole and I put my tuning key there.

From out front you can't see the holes and it hasn't changed the sound at all as far as I can tell. I use a ported reso so the additional amount of venting is neglible.

You may be able to use the tom mount that exist in your bass drum to hold a cymbal stand to hold one or more cymbals.
On my kit, the tom mount was originally at the front of the bass drum. I moved the mount to the back of the drum nearer to me. I used the hole from where the tom mount was to fabricate a stand that holds three cymbals. If you go to my profile pics there are more pics and a description of how I did it.
There are many ways to do this. You can buy a cymbal stand that fits onto the receiver for a tom.
I wanted to eliminate some floor stands. It has worked great for me for several years now without a problem.

Hey thanks for all of your replys everyone, Hey TTNW thats a really nice kit, your pdps look great, hey what type of stand are you using for your rack toms? because im going to do the same thing but with three toms and i have a clamp that will mount one tom to a stand but that leaves the other two, i have a stand that will hold my bass drum mount perfectly so im going to use that temporarily but its a really old stand so some of the paint is coming off so i am going to need a new one, i just dont have the money to spend at the moment, and bobdadrumma that is really cool what you did with your bass drum mount but on my pdp the bass drum mount for the toms also has a cymbal holder in the back of it, thanks for all of your feedback and i think im going to take it off and just leave it as is for now depending on how it looks, well i hope all of you are having a happy halloween

take care

Yeah bobdadruma thats whats cool about playing the drums it allows you to be creative, like i found an old ludwig stand that my bass drum mount fits into perfectly so im going to use that for my rack toms, now what i really need is a good quality throne, ive been using a sound percusion one for a long time, its just that theyre so expensive id rather buy a cymbal you know

I found that the Gibraltar thrones are comfortable and sturdy for a mid level price.
Throne prices do get pretty high for better quality ones. Comfort, and also back support is important though.

Yeah when you think about $200 seems so ridiculous at least it does to me but the nitro and pork pie thrones do look really comfortable, i just dont want to have a throne that breaks on me and i fall over especially at a gig that would be horrible, thats happened to me once but not at a gig just at my girlfriends house. So what kind of music do you like to play?

It's the tom holder from the bass mount put into a DW9000 stand. It fit perfectly.

It is sturdy. I'm 200 LBS. I have had mine for two years and it has no flaws. I gig and practice with it. I rock back and forth on it. I lean back on the rest without a care.
I play blues, Rock, Country, Jam Band, and Jazz for my own enjoyment.

hey thats a reasonable price for a gibraltar throne, i think i want to get a throne with a backrest next, yeah whenever i jam we play alot of blues jams, and rock, i like to play surf music thats one of the funnest types of music to play, and then we try to do jazz stuff but im not very good at it
