This is one of the kits I love the most.
It has just everything a kit needs.
With a 8" x 7" tom and a floortom at the left of the hi-hat, it would be my dream setup :)

I actually two of them identical with one extra 9x12 tom.
I use one for the road/gigs that is made up of the 3 9x12 toms with a mix of 13 crashes, splashes, chinas, and rides of Zildjian and Sabians.
I use one for band practice that only uses the 2 8x10 toms and is out fitted with all Zildjian Platinum cymbals from 1986.

My 14" - 16" crashes & my splash are mounted all on the same boom stand. Dont forget my offset toms are also mounted on that same stand.
BTW, my stand isn't a DW it's TAMA and I used Gibraltar SC-CLRA Cymbal L-Arm Ratchet Assembly for my second cymbal off the boom.

Hey Fiery (i know you from another forum right?)
Yes, it's exactly that ride.
Can't say much about it. Got it in a store 2-3 years ago.
It simply was the best sounding ride in that store, that's why I got it.
It's very versatile and just has a great silvery sound, which is very hard to explain.
Shame, they don't offer it anymore, it's my favourite ride.

It's hard to get a good POV from the seat due to being very close to the corner of a room and with a cell phone but you get the idea. Pics of my old setup are down the page a bit, I didn't feel it was condusive to how I want to play and I felt I was getting a little stagnant.
Now it's more of a true 3/1 as opposed to what I was calling 2.5/1.5 (Same sized toms on the second and third but the third has a different resonant head, tuned lower and placed by the floor tom), I think it's working.

Heh, I just noticed, my 18 inch B8 China now always sits with the B8 logo closest to me. It's bent on one side and the weight distribution is off now...it doesn't really matter too much to me that it's bent I suppose, it's a china, I figure it will just sound trashier.

Hey guys, first post in this forum, so please be kind!
This is my extremely budget, very well loved and used kit. It started life as a POS Yamaha Rydeen 5-peice but has had a Gibraltar rack, two Mapex M Birch toms, some Yamaha double kicks that used to be top of the range but aren't made anymore that I got second hand and a bunch of cymbals, some of which are so vintage they have 'Made in West Germany' on the underside.
I still have Paiste 101 hihats because I'm a peasant, Stagg 6" bell, vintage (circa 1980 or so) Zildjian Constantinople 17" crash, Meinl MB10 heavy crash, Paiste PST3 10" splash, Paiste Colorsound 20" ride and 18" china, Wuhan 16" thin crash and Meinl Classics 12" splash.
My kit is my fingerprint, I just hope i'll be able to afford a better fingerprint some time soon!
Let me know what you think, thanks!

Hi Mr Bling!
My Axis double pedal has a longboard on the left side and a normal foot board on the right. I played a DW 5000 dbl pedal for a lot of years and my right foot was very 'in tune' with that type of shorter footboard. I had some difficulty at first getting the power I need out of the longboard with my right foot so I switched the longboard out to the normal board. My left foot adapted to the longboard much more easily for the BD pedal, but for the hihat the longboard didn't feel just right either so I have a short footboard on it too. My right foot has adjusted since then and I might put a longboard on it too as the longboards do have some definite advantages.
The hat pedal is to the right of the slave pedal so that I can hold my hats closed with my heel while I play the left kick. It also allows me to heel-toe the hats and bd alternating or together at the same time. It makes for some very easy free ostinatos and conserves a ton of energy while playing. It also frees up a hand so it can do other things.
Cheers!

Bad phone pic, and not all my kit but my setup. Taken at rehearsal, I borrow the toms, the kick and the hardware. I've since ditched the solar crash and play the bell closer to the ride.

What is that second floor tom like an 18 inch kick or something?
no my friend, heres the story:
About 3 years ago i found a set of keller shells on ebay for like 300 bucks. the sizes were a 12x8 rack, 14x14 floor, and a 16x14 kick. they were finished edged and drilled with single point lugs. thinking about it i decided it would be a good idea to buy these becouse i wanted keller "custom" drums for some time and i could use them as a set of toms with the 16x14 being a second floor tom. i was extremely lucky when i found a few days later on ebay, a 20x20 conaway keller kick drum with the same single point lugs as the toms i had just purchased, so i bought that for 250, got 5 different colors of sparkle wrap, (silver sparkle not shown) and got those round hayman lugs you see, re drilled, wraped it in a jelly bean sparkle (i absolutely loved the vintage ludwig and fibes acrylic jelly bean kits so i incorporated that whole vintage look into a modern sounding kit) and i had my own "custom" kit that I essentially built. for cheap to!. sorry to get a bit off topic there but basically it started as a kick but now lives as a floor tom. i just havent gotten the time or the effort to swap out the wood hoops for triple flange
Thanks for reading!

Hi!
Jungle-influenced? Why?
This setup is because I'm studing the way of conduct the cymbal ride on the left hand, even I being deft. This are ideal to playing samba and raise the possibilities of work with the latin rythms.

People may have seen these already on my gear thread. If so sorry to waste your time.
The first is from a rehearsal with a funk band. There's a second kit on the other side of the room. Cannot remember why now. It's just a Pearl Masterworks kit. The snares are great though, Tama bubinga koa and a Sonor Designer. I am surprised to see crash cymbals on the kit. I usually do not use crashes. I prefer to crash rides. The band must have had loads of hits to accent. I think we did a bunch of TOP songs and that is why.
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss305/mrdfac/Gig%20and%20rehearsal%20pics/IMG00041-20100311-1551.jpg
This other shot if from another ensemble playing Latin based jazz/funk/r&b. No crashes. 2 rides and some hats. And again 2 great snares, this time a Cottonwood and artist beech. I remember I learned 90 songs in just over a week for that group.

Well I just put them together for the Neil Peart wanabe pic. They spend most of their time set up beside one another in the basement. For the pic I just took off the last tom on the electronic kit and climbed over the rack. Not something I would want to do all the time.

Interesting set up! How does it work out for you? Pros and cons?
Thank you. This setup is very comfortable, because it lends itself to an open-handed style of playing. There are more possibilities with my drumming now. The only con may be dealing with the reliability of a remote cable hi-hat (my cable broke after a week!). Luckily, I'm about to order one of the Speedy Remote Hats...

M1ck, I am looking at that fine picture, and trying to guess where this might be. There are no American flags on the boats, Americans are big on their flags so I choose to decide this is in Canada, cause we are taxed so bad we could care less about the flag, (they take 57% off me not counting eco tax, carbon etc.), The hill look big, larger than my lake, muskoka, so I will guess either far north like North Bay, or northern Quebec.

Hi all, first post so I thought I would put up a driver's POV of my box fresh Mapex kit! Photo was taken 20 mins before my DW double pedal turned up!

Unfortunately the company that dispatched my kit managed to pack my 16x16 floor tom skins in with a kit being dispatched to support the Blondie gig in London!

Second floor toms are usually just for looks anyways. ;)
Cool Kit!
