Here is a fun comparison for many that ask the question how do I get that sound like on “insert band name here’s album”. That struggle to tune, swap heads etc to find it.
I have two links to the same video:
First video is the recorded and processed sound from the studio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jmT64j0zCI
Second video is the raw track from the video camera mic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFPaRNvxPDo&feature=channel
Answer is you don’t get that sound without the processing….
Anyone know how to change the post subject line? It’s no longer relevant.
go to 30 seconds sorry I just tossed the video together.
Some Death Metal links in a post below.

That’s nice to hear from drummers. I’m never really sure as I suspect we get a lot of wind blown up asses buy people at their shows. The same people that tell other bands and drummers that I think are lacking tell him he is great for his 14 year old age so who knows…
Anyways thanks guys.
He has more complicated playing in other songs but this is the only song I have and audio mix back of yet to post.

What do you want us to say?
Originality 4/10
execution 10/10
skillset 4/10
difficulty level 5/10
video production value 7/10
He's pretty solid. Period. Age doesn't factor in, if you came here to be humbled watch this:

What matters is that he has a passion for something worthy of sharing with other people. Don't be so obsessed with how your son is progressing as a drummer with his skills. Is it better to be Jojo Mayer or Ringo Starr?

I wanted you to say what you did… get it?

Overall, very good for a kid. Does he play any other styles than metal? I was a metal drummer growing up and learning other style of music helped me greatly.

He plays Rock, Metal but his favorite is Death Metal. I can’t get him to play anything else. In his lessons he learns a bit of everything like jazz, Latin, funk etc.

Yea. I actually put it up to make a point in another thread about processing has such a huge impact on the sound of the drums. I had a video of my son playing in the studio that I shot with a video camera and audio from it’s mic. Then I took a rough mix of the song he was playing and laied it over the same video.
I linked to both videos for the user to demonstrate the difference in the drum tone to illustrate my point.
This morning I got bitch slapped buy the producer and asked to take it down.
I’ll do it again when I get a final mix.
The same video without the song is here…

Turn him on to Messhugah, Necrophagist. Death metal doesn't have to be all blast beats.

He loves Messhugah! Late response eh! :-)
He recently released some stuff with his death metal band. He tried to keep it interesting… at least not straight blasts or double patterns with no breaks but he is learning.

Actually, it's kind of cool to see a kid playing death metal. At least he's not just jamming out to Green Day for hours haha

Yep that’s him thanks. That’s style doesn't get much love especially from his teachers but he works so hard and particularly on the foot technique and stamina. At the end of drum day in studio he was a puddle! He had never played that style more than an hour at a show and maybe 2 hours in any one practice. But 4 or 5 hours to get it all on time and he was done!

The sound in the two videos is amazing. Just goes to show that sound production can make all of the difference. The drumming is fine. It's obvious that he has put in some time.

your son plays really tight and clean, he's doing a fantastic job with his drumming. i was really impressed with how consistant his backbeat is.

Necrophagist drives me nuts for two reasons. It's just really annoyin fast melodic guitar riffs, sweeps and solos and there is no drummer its all drum machine at least on the album I've heard. For death metal music that isn't all chaotic blasts and straight double bass tell him to listen to Atheist. Preferably the Elements album. The best mix of metal, jazz, latin, funk, etc. Very little double bass, no blasts. The drumming is absolutly amazing. Also tell him to check out Cynic's 2 albums. Personally I don't really like Cynic's studio albums I like their more raw and death metally demos but those albums are perfect examples of creative death metal music thats not all wankery.
