Close to 16 years playing Pearl drums and after trying out kits from just about every other
major manufacturer..like the prodigal son, I have returned home.

What do you have on the rack tom?. It's too thick to be moon gel. Love the color.

The kit just came from being in the studio..I had her home for a couple of days to do some maintenance.. The foam pieces are nothing more than door insulation. I have it on there to dampen the resonance a tad more for this demo we are recording. When I play live, they are generally wide open.

Nice kit, one of the ones on my list to decide between. How do you like the sound of the basswood/birch shells? I'm still trying to decide between all birch shells or the birch/basswood combo.

Well, funny you should ask that!

I happen to have owned an all birch shell VBX when they were first released back a few years ago. They were great drums. I found the VBX a tad difficult to get the sound I was really after. They just seemed a bit too much in the hi frequency for my taste..still very nicely made and beautiful to look at!

The VBX is every bit as nicely built..but the sound is where they shine!

The combination of the birch and basswood create a nice attack and fatter punch than the straight birch IMHO.. I love this kit!
Play 'em both and let your ears decide. For me and my taste..not to mention pocketbook.The VSX was the way to go.
