Hi there,
My name is Mike and i am 33 years old.I am an guitarist but recently discovered that guitar is not my instrument (yea i know its a bit late).I start some lessons with an ex member (drummer) of my band and i believe that drumming is my thing.I have a ton of questions as a newbie and thats why i am posting here.
Electronic vs Acoustic set. What do you believe?I will buy a Roland TD 4SX coz theres no studio in my town and i have to practise home. But how far can i go with em?Are they suitable for live performance? Can i stick with electric drums like .. forever (buying later a better set like TD-20SX )?Is it nice to show up in a stage (heavy metal band) with electric set ?
Thanx in advance and keep rockin!!!!

i have both electronic and acoustic kits. i love the electronic kit for practice at home, but when i practice with my band i use my acoustic kit, and i always perform with the acoustic kit. it's possible to play live with an electronic kit, and sometimes it's good to use them when you're on super tight stage or volume is an overriding concern. most of the time they sound kind of cheesy and an acoustic kit is the right call. i've never seen a heavy metal band perform with an electronic kit, so you'd be kind of a pioneer if you tried that.

What if i NEVER buy an acoustic set (or at least not in near future)? Would i be considered as i drummer ?Do you know any drummer playing in electric kit (only or mostly)?
You might think my questions are a bit .. stupid, but i would appreciate some straight forward answers , ty !!

I think what you're asking (and there seems to be some kind of language barrier) is whether you would get the gig if you showed up with an electronic kit to an audition for a metal band. I think it would be tough honestly. There are several drummers using electronic kits at a pro level but the vast majority would be in techno or hip-hop genres where programed pads are used for samples (non accoustic drum recorded sounds) or often drummers will set up a few pads in conjunction with an accoustic kit.
The everyday metal type drummer is going to have an accoustic kit almost always. For that genre, the electronic kit would only be useful for personal practice IMHO. Having said all that, there is really nothing that can stop you from being the first one to do it. Keep in mind that you will need a big amp and speaker cabinet to keep up with the rest of the band.

in church environments it's actually pretty common for serious drummers to use an electronic kit. churches like them because they can easily control the drummer's volume by cranking the volume knob to the left.
i think you'd still be considered "a drummer" if you never bought an acoustic kit, but you'd be seriously limiting yourself and your opportunities to play in bands. when i got back into drumming, i played nothing but an electronic kit for two years before i got an acoustic kit, but let me tell you, it was quite a shock to the system when i finally got the acoustic kit! i managed to get used to it though, and now go back and forth between my electronic and acoustic kits pretty easily.
