real name? - Daniel
age? - 17
how long been playing? - 5-6 Years
origin of user name? - I've used the name "Kastrien" for just about everything.
top 5 drummers? - Blake Richardson (Between the Buried and Me/Glass Casket), Leche (As Blood Runs Black), Matthew Gossman (Into the Moat), Chris Adler (Lamb of God), and Jason Bitner (Shadows Fall)
make of drumkit? - Pearl
make of cymbal? - Sabian
where do you practice? -Home, School, Anywhere where there's a kit, other than that, I always have a pair of sticks.
are you in a band/s? - I play/jam with a lot of the guys out here locally, but I've only been in one band a while back and looking for one currently. Other than that, I've committed most of my time to my school's band/drumline.
covers or originals? - Originals, but I like to do covers as well.
what style of music? - I like to play all styles, but mainly as of now, jazz and metal.
favourite take out food? - drums.
country? - USA
one really odd fact about yourself? - I'm a computer nerd.
how did you start drumming? - My parents got me a child's set when I was about 5, but I never learned anything from that, but I really started learning in 7th grade band, and then got my set in 8th grade. So, mainly from school band.

I also made this:

I'm Kastrien.
I recently happened to stumble upon these forums and would like to become a member here.
I'm 17 and a senior in high school.
I'm in my high school's drumline and band and I am the section leader of my drumline of over 30 members. I was the center snare during marching season, and now play everything else during concert season. I also play kit.
I am in my school Jazz band as well, which is the only form of set lessons that I've ever had; jazz drumming. Other then that, I've pretty much worked myself up to my current abilities on set. I would say that everything I've learned in band/drumline has helped me with my set playing. I've been in band since 7th grade and have been playing set since 8th (5 years). I started drumline in 9th grade, playing Top Bass (out of 6), but playing the Snare part (We did it differently at my school), and every year after that playing Snare and eventually moved my way up to becoming the center snare. I've taken place in several events such as Region, All state, UIL, Solo & Ensemble, and others. Also, I've been to PASIC (performed) twice, while there I was a contestant of the Drum-O-Meter contest, which is viewable here: http://www.drumometer.com/pasic2006.htm You'll see me in some of those pictures. Though, against fellow high school students, i was against college students as well, coming close, i didnt win. ha Also met many famous drummers and percussionists, including Vic Firth. Twice.
So, as you can see, a lot of my drumming comes from school, but I'd prefer playing on my set any day, though, I've been expected some sort of musical scholarship with a local university. But that's a little later on. ehh.

So, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

-Kastrien

Got myself an instructor and have been swinging since. I've only been playing for a short time but have played Acoustic Upright Bass in many groups throughout the SF Bay Area. Playing Bass has helped me a great deal in that I already know the music, lots of the tunes, song forms and the language of Jazz. I'm just having to apply it all to the Drums.

That about wraps it up!

My names Melvyn, and although this isnt my first post, i just thought id introduce myself properly

Ive been drumming for around 7 years and are currently studying for my Grade 8 exam, though my kit is a rock set of Performance Percussion cannons, ive refinished them and shoved new heads on, and they sound first class!

Im currently saving for my next kit, probably a Mapex M Birch or Yamaha Stage Custom!

Im the drummer for a band, Apolica, we're a power/heavy metal band based in the south wales area, and we're currently recording our first demo (not in a studio, using computer software)

we have 2 websites,
the proper one (with forum) http://www.apolica.com (Webby Clickeh!)
and forum http://www.apolica.com/forum (Forum Clickeh!)

and the myspace (everyone has one -.-)
http://www.myspace.com/apolica (Myspace Clickeh!)

We havent got any recordings or pictures up yet, but we're currently recording so hopefully something will be up soon!

origin of user name? The Big Lebowski.

top 5 drummers? Hard to say. After not playing for years, I stopped listening to music for the drums and now tend to appreciate more of a total band groove... a lot of the downbeat electronic stuff doesn't have much of anyone. But if pressed..
John Moen (Decemberists)
Bill Bruford ca. 1973-1975
Joe Morello - I could listen to Brubeck @ Carnegie Hall & be totally satisfied.
Ringo
Carl Turney (Clinic)
But 99% of what I listen to is Air, Royksopp, Zero 7, electrelane, a bunch of stuff that's totally not drum music.
make of drumkit? Starclassic (birch) piano white lacquer.
make of cymbal? Paiste
where do you practice? At the moment? On my legs. Drums are shipping out. Practice pad kit in the apartment, occasional rented space at a rehearsal studio. Looking for a decent lockout in LA.

Hi Folks

Well... I guess it's time to do the "erk!" part and intro myself. I used to play the drums in the '70s (just good old pop at weddings, parties and functions etc.). My home was South Africa and my Yamaha kit went around the country. Gave it all up for 30 years but the "pull" to drum is in the soul. Now, at the ripe old age you see below, I've started up again. Been drumming for 4 years now and just realised that if I want to be a better drummer than I've ever been - it's back to school for me! So - with great drumming teacher in Reading, UK, I'm ready for it!!

real name: Chris Kenward

HELLO FROM NYC!

First of all, I'm not a drummer at all, so I'm an oddity for sure. I used to play drums and the piano, but that went out the window.

I'm primarily a graphic designer by trade and I love my job. I saw Gavin perform with Porcupine Tree this past weekend. My boyfriend got me into them. I've never heard any of their stuff before, except most people always compare them to TOOL. All I know is two of my favorite musicians worked with the band: Richard Barbieri and Alex Lifeson. It should be good, right? I was blown away. My boyfriend gave me MP3's from the album Deadwing and In Absentia. My boyfriend told me that Gavin plays with them now.

Here's a little story for all of you:

I was the former web mistress of the now defunct Moving Westward - The Official Go West Site ten years ago. Peter Cox, the lead vocalist, came out with a solo album in 1997. I promoted his album on my site. I received an email from Gavin, completely out of the blue. He was nice enough to tell me about the recording and reheasal experiences performing with Peter Cox.

Fast forward ten years later, I finally saw Gavin play live for the first time this past weekend. Weird huh?

Here is a list of my favorite drummers/percussionists:

Josh Freese
Neil Peart
Budgie
Martin Atkins
Bill Bruford
Chris Vrenna
Jerome Dillon
Leonard Ito
Yoshiki Hayashi

If you're reading this Gavin, "HELLO", waves.

That's all for now folks.

:)

Great little forum you've got going here. There is some very good information all over the place, helps kill idle hours at work :D

A little about me, I am 18 and i've been playing drums for about a year and a half. I am currently with a band native to south and central florida which plays benefit events for the Rock of Love Foundation. I currently play a Pacific FS Birch 5 piece, and soon I am looking to upgrade to a custom DW, Spaun, or possibly a PEAVEY set, as I love their products very much.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi everyone. My name is Tarek, I'm about to turn 19, and music is my passion! I live in a town called Boring, which is just outside of Portland, OR. I've been drumming for about 4 years now. I also play guitar and have been doing that for 5 years, and I was in choir all throughout middle and high school, which is how I got started with music. I started playing drums for somewhat of an odd reason. I played guitar in a horrible punk band in the beginnings of high school and our drummer left. We couldn't find anyone to play, so I finally said screw this, I'll play... because we had another guitarist. So I borrowed a kit from someone and taught myself to play! I sucked immaculately of course in this band, but we only played for a short time before going our seperate ways, which is when I actually started learning some technique and stepped away from the classic punk boom-chuck. I now consider drumming to be my main concentration, though I still play guitar every day of my life and I write all sorts of crazy music, ranging from jazz to acoustic to metal to idie and some grind core! I love technical music with odd times and innovative harmonies, basically I aim for creative unique music with no boundaries. If you haven't listened to them, check out Between the Buried and Me. They are phenomenal musicians who have inspired me in many ways, and if you're open minded, their music will blow you away! Anyway, I play a Pearl Masters Studio 6 ply birch 22x18 10x8 12x9 14x14 16x16 with a Yamaha brass 13x6.5 snare and mostly Paiste cymbals. I'll post pictures and stuff in the "your place" section when I get a chance. Some of my drumming influences include Danny Carey (of TOOL), Blake Richardson (of Between the Buried and Me), Josh Freese, Akira Jimbo, and many others. Anyway, I guess that's it.

Peace.

The day I caught Vinnie Pauls Drumstick in the Last Pantera tour I knew it was a sign from above and I needed to get in gear. So I bought a drumset with some money that I got from a friends car insurance after he tried to kill me in a 120 mph roll over accident. TOTALLY WORTH IT IF YOU ASK ME!!! Unfortunatly $1,000 doesn't get you much of a drumset.

how did you start drumming?
As a kid I was surrounded by music. My dad played guitar and sang, and played in a house band in a pizza joint. At some point, I just started banging on things, so they would put me on their drummers' drum throne and hold me up so I could hit stuff. My parents bought me the little toy kits, but I would play them too much and too hard and the "heads" (thick paper, really) would bust. Eventually, an aunt found an old bass drum and gave it to me, so I'd beat on that. When I turned 7, my parents bought me my first "real" kit of my own (an old Percussion Plus 5 piece) and I just took off.

one really odd fact about yourself? Once had career advice from Jasmine St Claire (ex-porn actress). Not what you'd expect either...she told me to get into computers!

how did you start drumming? My dad was a drummer in the 60's. Always wanted to emulate him... At age 13 I got my first kit, and was in a band without a bassist. A guy came in as bass player who was actually a s*** hot drummer, much better than me at the time. Eventually I was ousted and shoved onto bass, which I played till about 28 full time (still play a bit today, write most of our bands songs with it!). When I moved into my own place 3 years ago, I decided to take up drums again and here I am now!

22 Years Old
I have been playing for 8 years, I really got serious about 2 years ago and started to take lessons to learn the basics like rudiments.
There is nothing special about my user name.
My favorite drummers are Benny Greb, John Bonham, Johnny Rabb, and my teacher Billy Angelo Stella.
I have a Yamaha Stage Custom, thats about 6 years old.
Zildjian is the only brand cymbal I use. They cost me more than my set.
My kit is in my apartment but has mutes on it, so it's sort of a pain, but I practice everywhere and anywhere I can. I have my practice pad in my lap when I'm on the couch. I am always tapping on everything I can.
I used to be in a band, but now I don't have the time with a full time job.
My favorite bands are The Mars Volta, and Led Zeppelin.
My favorite food is a turkey sandwich, I eat a variety of one everyday.
USA.
I started drumming after seeing a band in junior high, and being fascinated by the drummer. I have been an addict ever since then.

one really odd fact about yourself?
I can balance a drumstick on my finger, and then put it on my nose, all without taking a break. This led to drumsticks on my chin, and eventually larger objects, like chairs and bar stools etc.

how did you start drumming?
I kept sneaking onto my older brother's drumset, until one day he gave me the drumset. I then took marching band in highschool to learn the rudiments, as well as practicing drumset every day, self-taught. Jazz Ensemble in college while studying to become an electrical engineer. Off and on ever since, mostly off.

Drummer World is definitely a motivation for me to get back into practice. When I look at my join date, it corresponds with my picking up the sticks again, after 5 years of not playing at all. (tapping with my fingers and feet has kept my coordination in place)

Hello Liam! Greetings and welcome to DrummerWorld. How did you find us? As Beat's said... feel free to post about any concerns, questions, information about drumming or not about drumming. Also, as mentioned by Beat's... check out the search box up at the top on the information bar. It will more than likely touch on any topic that you have questions or wanna talk about. Just type in your interest and click "Go."

I have been drumming for the better half of 24 years. I was born with it I guess. My grandmother was a drummer and I guess she passed it on to me.

So, you have been drumming for 10 months now huh? Are you taking lessons? What style of music are you leaning towards learning? I hope you enjoy your time here.

Peace!

Cool... lessons are the way to go buddy! Stick with em. Oh, just to let you know... one of the Administrators will probably move this thread to the (Your Place- Introduce Yourself) section very shortly. So, if you can't find it here in the General Discussion, it will be over there soon. Become familiar with the menus.

I myself am into Rock, Indie and Alternative as well. But, I wouldn't label my taste to just such. I guess... its more a fusion of rock/jazz/metal. If that even makes sense.. lol.

Concerning lessons... what are you currently learning?

liam1523
07-29-2007, 11:10 PM
yes im not limited to just those music styles. they are my favourite but i like almost everything except from that evil music called dance. about lessons im learning a whole mix of styles but mostly rock at the moment.

thanks for the warning about the move of this thread

Welp, hello fellow drummers. I've been lurking around the site for a while. But I've registered and I look forward to contributing to the drummerworld community. And gather useful information for my own personal use.

I'm 31 years old. I've been playing drums for about 15 years. My influences come from all over. I get inspiration from people such as Gene Krupa to Joey Jordison to Tito Puente. I've been in a number of different bands. But I really love playing metal and I love breakdowns.

I've probably owned about six different acoustic kits. Some sort of Sonor kit was my first. I really beat the crap out of that poor kit. My kit now is an inexpensive 5 piece Pearl fusion kit. It gets the job done. I use a variety of different cymbols with the kit. I have a love for trashy/swishy cymbols. I also have a Roland TD6 electric kit for those late night jam sessions in the basement.

Thats pretty much me in a nutshell.

Hi all,
I havent played in a few years but the bug just bit me again. so i joined here to get a little info besides being among friends.

played for about 10 years before i quit about 6-7 years ago. still very rusty compared to what i used to be able to do. but its comin back after a month of trying, little by little. worst part is building the stamina i once had.

not sure what my drum kits is actually and was hoping someone could tell me. Ill have to post pics later. Theyre Yamaha and was told when i bought them in 1994 that they were vintage classics? dont know much about drums, i play guitar too and really got into the info part as well as the playing on that instrument more over the years.

one of the model no's is TT-7130

but anyway..... hi Yall,

Hi,

I started drumming when I was 14. I got my first rig from a local pawnshop for 100$. It was a black and white zebra look Pyramid. The standard 4 drums set. I added a set of cheap cymbals and started playing for fun.

A year and a half later, I traded my Pyramid and 200$ for a Beatles style Ludwig which came with Zildjian Turkish cymbals. What a change in sound it was...

A year later, I traded my Ludwig for another Ludwig. A beautiful Vistalite clear 5 drums... I kept it 3 years, until someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Ludwig had stopped producing acrylic drums (they do have some now) and the guy really wanted my set. So I traded for his almost new Rogers with a 20 BD and 4 Zildjians cymbals and Hi-hat plus 300$.

Few years later, I grabed a double Ludwig set with 6 toms and kept it for many years as I had left the scene and was only playing for fun.

But in 1997, old musicians friends called in to ask If I wanted to join them for a one night only gig and that was it... Could not stop... Sold the double Ludwig and started shopping for a new set.

When I saw it, it was love at first sight... A beauty... Glossy black finish, shinning chrome and cymbals... The guy said '' do you drum?''... I grabbed a set of sticks and took it for a ride... WOW!!! I had never heard anything like that. A real deep sound from all drums. That was it... Got myself a brand new Canadian made Custom maple Ayotte... Never regretted it. I played that drum over and over and everytime I was playing it I had that same feeling. Like when you drive a Ferrari or something similar.

Last year, I decided to change it. I checked out the Ayotte again but in the mean time, we were practicing in an all equipped studio and It was my first encounter with another Ayotte product... TAYE.... Wow! Same deep sound. So I checked out the prices at my local dealer. Few days later, I heard that the studio was changing their sets and the one I was playing on was for sale. It looked like new. One year old only. A SM622SD (Studio Maple) with all the hardware and a double BD pedal. A kit like that sells for about 3500$ CAD. I got it for... 600$... Couldn't believe it.

I still have my Taye. Still love it. Just got the new ZP 1.02 BD pedal. AMAZING...

Keep drummin...

Cheers!

how did you start drumming-- I started drumming from listening to Mitch Mitchell, Brad Wilk, and Steve Gadd, whose drumming had a highly profound spiitual and emotional impact on me. I was also bored with woodshedding on the guitar for about 15 years and taking that instrument about as far as I could go, technically speaking, in the rock idiom. I have always wanted to play jazz, but I don't really care for guitar in jazz music, so I wanted to try a new instrument.

The drums are in the cases but I took one out to show the finish. One ride is a sabian Hand Hanmered Jazz Ride which is the best ride i've owned in my opinion. The other is a Zildjian Constanople which is amazing as well. I also took a pic of my 14 K custom sessions. These are the cymbals i'm enjoying and using the most these days. It all sounds as good or better than it looks. :-)
Edit: The little girl playing the roland is my daughter, Lilly. She'll be three in October.

So ... I´m the new one it seems. I´m 22, playing drums now for about 2 years and my "heroes" though would be Jason Bittner, Chris Adler, Derek Roddy & Dave McClain. Trying everyday to get better and searching for a new band right now. I´m playing a Pearl Export Series Kit with Meinl/Paiste/Sabian Cymbals, DW Pedals, Pro-Mark Sticks & Evans Drumheads.

If I missed something, just ask or tell ! ^^

Welcome Seth to the best site on the web for drum and drumming info. From gear to lessons to drummers bio's to views of our sets and setups. A quick estimate from the first page shows about 170,000 to 200,000 posts. After you have read all of these, you may begin asking questions. Just kidding, but there is a search feature where you can type in a subject or idea to see if it has been discussed previously. If not ask away and the 12000 or so members will be glad to help. Have fun.

Hi everyone. My name is Tom.
Usually I don't post an introduction in the "hey, I'm new" forum on such sites, but seeing as how this is a site for drummers and everyone else seems to lay out their dirty, I guess its only fair that I do too.

AGE: 47

Years playing: 20 (retired due to wrist injury-specifically ganglial cyst which needed surgery, Doc said to continue playing might result in permanent loss of use of hands so I regretfully quit-well, quit drums, but not music. I switched to keyboards.)

Origin of user name: That's kind of a long story, but here goes. When I first went online I was trying to sign up for Yahoo! using a character name from the pantheon of H.P. Lovecraft's monster lore. All the names had been used, or I was given an option of a name with a ridiculous string of numbers like "Cthulhu1990656". I didn't want any numbers in my user name so I tried and tried for some catchy name and kept getting the "try again" message. While all this was going on, I had the TV running in the background and M*A*S*H happened to be playing. In that episode, a character pulls up in a jeep and says into his radio, "ablebravo 1 to ablebravo 2, we're in position..." . Well that had kind of a catchy sound to it so I tried ablebravo as my username and hey, presto! it worked. Ever since then, my internet presence has had some variation on the "able" portion of that original Yahoo user name.

Top 5 fave drummers: Carl Palmer, Buddy Rich, Dave Lombardo, Phil Collins, Bill Bruford

Type of drumkit: I don't have it any more, but I used to have an 11 piece solid maple Slingerland kit. After literally shattering pretty much every make of bass pedal, I finally found one that could handle my lead-footed style and still be lightning fast even with a solid wood beater- the Slingerland 944 Yellowjacket.

Cymbals: I've always been a fan of the classic A. Zildjian, but I did have a 22" Paiste China type as well.

Where do I practice?: Well, as I said I don't play drums any more, but I do have a full-function home recording studio which is my recreation as well as my business. I, doing business as Bent Ears Audio Laboratories, produce voice tracks and musical bedding for commercials and corporate training videos. I have an Ensoniq ESQ1, an Ensoniq Halo, and 4 "soft synths": A Moog Modular, MiniMoog, ARP 2600 and Yamaha CS80.

I also post my compositions which boil out of my subconscious from time to time on my podcast site, the link to which can be found in my profile. Any comments-good or bad- are more than welcome.

I am a full time booking agent out of West Loop in Downtown Chicago, IL. In another life I was a pro drummer and toured with a headline act. After I got sick of being sick and tired I got into the biz end of the biz. Now after 15 plus years as an agent I have started a management company and Indie Label. I have two clients for both. Donny Osborne (Buddy Rich, Mel Torme) and DJ Master P.E. (L.A. DJ). In my pic left to right is Bill Ludwig III (grandson of the original founder and owner of The Ludwig Drum Co. and current publisher of Not So Modern Drummer), Me, Donny Osborne (Buddy Rich's protege, Mel Torme's exclusive recording and touring drummer for over 23 years and son of the former president of The Slingerland Drum Co.). Not a photo op. These are two of my friends.

Hi everyone,
I'm Mike, I live in Hollywood and I have been playing percussion and drums for 11 years. I got hardcore into drum set about two years ago. I am a classical percussionist first, and drummer second but absolutely love playing set. My favorite drummer of all time is Max Roach and I am really digging the old school Jazz stuff right now (especially the Clifford Brown/Max Roach stuff). I look forward to learning a lot from the large drum community here.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a friend of Danny Britt's (I'm actually his current accountant and former guitar player). I've recently become more interested in drums after having played a little snare drum in high school (and hearing dan talk about all of his projects) so I decided to join and start learning more about drums from the folks in here. I may even get a kit if the wife gives me the okay!

Look forward to posting here in the future!

Between all the threads on this board and all the instructional read-ups I need to catch up on, I am completely overwhelmed! Anyhow, I am a relatively new drummer from the San Fernando Valley, CA, where I have lived all my life.

My musical journey started as a young kid. I liked to buy cassette tapes with allowance money at the Warehouse near my house, where I bought anything that looked cool: from Richie Valens to doo-wop classics to Metallica to NWA to 40s big-band. I listened to these tapes on my Walkman where ever I went. At the time, I didn't have any real musical taste, except that I loved hearing the beat of the drums. During grade school, my interest in playing music started when a multi-instrumentalist music teacher, a middle aged conservative lady who - while highly intelligent and creative - thought that listening to classic rock was the equivalent to devil worship, urged me to take up piano. I learned the basics of reading notation, counting beats and whatnot, but I fell out of it around 5th grade (only to pick it up again recently when I scored a Fender Rhodes and some 60s-70s sheet music a few years ago). Fast forward through my junior high and high school years where I was an awkward, antisocial bookworm/couch potato type who didn't have any real hobbies. It wasn't until I started college when I picked up record collecting (see music genres below), which resparked my music interest. One day a couple of years ago, I decided that I wanted to play the drums. So I bought a cheap but reliable Ludwig set at a used music store. It wasn't until several months ago, I got serious learning rudiments, trying to imitate records, playing triplets, 3-against-2 polyrhythms, etc. It's amazing that last year I struggled to coordinate my limbs to do a simple, straight rock beat. Now, I'm dabbling in off kilter snare funk beats, Afro-Latin clave based rhythms and coordinated jazz playing. Slowly but surely, I have been disciplining myself to set aside a portion of my day to practice. If I can't (or, regrettably, too tired/lazy), I make sure I set aside time to listen to my records, attend a jazz show once in a while, or watch a drum vid, at the very least. Speaking of which, I have Netflix and rented Steve Smith's and Tommy Igoe's DVDs recently, which are both very concise. Anyhow, I'm a mediocre player who needs to work on a lot of stuff. Weak left hand! Trying to find the most comfortable and efficient way to set my drums up! Sounding stiff, predictable and linear! My ADD having self always reverting to playing the same stupid 4/4 rock beat and fills without feeling like I'm improving! Ugh! However, time's on my side and I am determined to actually create music.

Real name? Ryan
Age? 24 (in a couple of days)
How long been playing? A little under a year
Origin of user name? My initials. Plus it's like a right double stroke

make of drumkit? Ludwig
make of cymbal? One 18" Sabian. I'll get more when I get better.
where do you practice? Garage
Are you in a band/s? Not yet. Maybe in a few years.
Covers or originals? Depends. If it's a straight forward, note-for-note cover then I might as Well listen to the original.
What style of music? Jazz, Latin/salsa, psychedelic rock, 90s era hiphop, late 60s-early 70s funk, traditional African music, reggae...
Favourite take out food? In 'N' Out
Country? United States
One really odd fact about yourself? I have no sense of smell.
How did you start drumming? (see life story intro above)

My other hobbies are teaching myself to speak Spanish fluently and watching movies. (40s-50s noir, 70s crime dramas, obscure B-movies, old sci-fi...)

welcome, Ryan

unusual to meet people with a bandwidth of tastes as you. Going by the descriptions of your favorite music and favorite drummers, thats a pretty wide wingspan.

Nice! I like music liberals! Welcome to DW. This is the nicest friendliest, warmest, place to discuss gear, technique, instruction, gigs, drummers, concepts, marital problems.. anything under the sun..except, do read the rules, its kind important , and the forum members and mods take that pretty seriously.

I hope you have as great I time here as I do

Hey Ryan..Don't ever see yourself as playing stupid 4/4 rock beats. I can remember starting out myself and sliding right into that groove or rut as it was! Master that 4/4 feel and begin to hang your own ornaments on it. You'll get there. Just be persistant and know that there isn't one drummer alive today who isn't in a constant learning process!
Welcome to the loyal order of Woodchippers!

well i've been a bass and guitar player for the past 7 years and it has now come to pass that I will be getting a kit of my very own. over the past year i've been following out of my buddy rich snare drum rudiments book on a remo practice pad and i've also been playing my father in laws 70's butchers block kit as much as possible. I really cant express how insanely excited i am to completely dedicate myself to the kit and learning its ins and outs. or at least learning the in's and outs' that i want to find. lol...i'm excited to be a drummer!!

much love!

yeah, the sonor 2007 birch is nearly mine...just waiting for a student loan to get to me. tis' in the final stages...lol...overrage checks=musical equipment. thats how it should go anyhow, ANYHOW...whats sick is that the 2007 kit at my local shop, jims music, is only like 729 or something...musicians friend its 999....same kit....lol...and jim's kit comes with the hardware and sonor is doing a voucher thing where you send something in and get two double braced boom stands for free. lol....i'm planning on getting the kit, and then just getting some zildjian zbt's (i know i know, but i have NO cash for the custom a's lol)....first thing i'm upgrading is the heads....aquarian super kick on the bass drum and probably remo pinstripes on the others...HEY, here's a question. when you replace the heads on a new kit do you replace the bottoms too? i never thought of it. as far as upgrading cymbals i think i'm going for custom a's...14'' newbeat's, an 18'' custom a crash, 19'' custom a crash and a 22'' k kustom dark ride...new bass pedal? probably a double dw 5000 (i've played the single version and loved it).

Its not necessary to change the reso heads. Save your money, change the batter heads and see how they sound. Also check for used cymbals on line you may spend as much for them as new ZBT's. www.cymbalcellar.com

Well, at the tender age of 49 I have decided to play drums. I bought a nice old Ludwig kit, but I'm really only playing the practice pad right now. I'm attempting the self-teaching route at this point, but haven't ruled out a teacher by any means. Right now I'm committed to starting slow and learning the rudiments. I can see I have my work cut out for me for the near future, but I already find the physics of drumming fascinating and I'm having fun with it.

My musical tastes are ecclectic. For drummers, I love to watch Joe Morello play. Bernard Purdie is a new find (for me) and just blows me away. I now realize I have heard him on hit records all my life. I also love the classic soul drumming of Al Jackson Jr. Also a big interest in early 60s instro/surf rock.

This site is an amazing resource. I look forward to learning a lot from you all.

Well, i spose i best say Hi. im new here but i am a member of both the Pearl Drummers Forum and Mikedolbear. I have been playing for about 7 years now but i would say around 4 to 5 years properly. I am now 14 years old (nearlly 15 then i will have been playing for 8 years). I live in England and are in a few bands which i hope will get me some drum work e.g. session work or just get the band famous, well dont most people wish that happened?? I hope to become a session musician or be in a band, or both :P. Most people i know say i am very good at drums and now i feel that i should learn jazz as jazz is MUCH harder than rock and others, also incase i do become a session musician so i can be used in many genres.

Well thats about me, i will upload some videos of me once i record some (which probably wont be until I get some mics or i could do it at band practice).

I am pretty new to the forum, but from what I can gather so far is that there are a lot of talented drummers in here with much to share. So on that note, (no pun intended) tell me about you. How long have you played drums? What is your style? etc...

I have been playing drums about 15 years and started in elementary school as soon as I was old enough to join the school band. I have been passionate about all genres of music that include tasteful drumming--one of the best examples being latin jazz. I have had the honor to play with BB King in Memphis, TN on the night of the millenium, Dec 31, 1999--I write cadences and practice my technique everyday. As far as chops go I was won a "1" in state senior year of high school and my director said that in 20 years of teaching he hadn't seen any drummer as natural as me. Yet, I look around and see so drummers like you in this forum that are on my level or better--I am only one of many serious, talented, and passionate drummers--so tell me about you.

Well I have a bio here (www.handidrummed.com/drummers/profiles/rob/) so I won't bore everyone with the details, but my name is Rob. I've been playing for about 16 years, and I run a website for disabled drummers at www.handidrummed.com. Myself, I have Cerebral Palsy which usually only affects my right foot as I have limited ankle movement (pretty much none in a playing context).

I also just started teaching at a local store and soon I may be involved in the music education program as a coordinator between that store and the sister store.

Hola, the name is Polsky, live in Barcelona area. Been playing since 9 yrs old ( I´m now a sparkling 53 ) have 2 vinyl records out ( Ibiza Sound Machine 1981, El El 1988 ) a recent Cd with Pulidos (2005), an andalucian rock band and currently in the studio recording a new Cd called "In-Pro-Visions" to be completed by end of Jan.2008. Ive finally made the switch from mercenary roles ( countless rock bands, hotels, banquets, etc ) to concentrate solely on jazz-fusion-trance-rock-funk own compositions. Not a single dream of R&R fame left in me, just play to improve my chops and have a good time. Someone said, I play for fun, but take my fun seriously, and along with my own motto ,PLEASURE NO PRESSURE, I enjoy playing more than ever.
I´d like to contact with barcelona drummers. Thanks DrummerWorld !!

p.d would love to run a foto but cant seem to do it

Hey all

My name is Tony but people tend to call me 'T'! or Big T. I'm British Italian or Britalian! I live in the UK always have done. Been playing drums since I was about 12, I'm 30 now. I play in 2 bands at the moment: a covers band called The Inner Souls and an all out 'kick ya in the nuts' rock band called Claymonster. I have great fun doing both. My best friend is a bass player! I play a Premier Cabria kit 22bd, 14 sn, 10sn/tom, 12, 14, 16 tom. Paiste cymbals 16, 18 PST cr's, 13 Alpha hats and 20 Alpha ride. I'm also waiting on an 18 floor tom that I will be converting in to a bass drum for jazz gigs. I also play a Roland TD6 for practice and sometimes even studio!

I'm quite new to forums so be gentle. I'm looking forward to speaking to you all about DRUMS!!! and learning loads! Bernhard, this is a fantastic site.

Big T!

Greetings, everyone. My name is Scott, and I am a 35-year-old electrician. I have been playing drums since I was about 14 years old. I started in my Junior High School Band, and I was "assigned" percussion because I couldn't quite get my mouth to make the right shape to play the saxaphone, which is what I really wanted. Fate had other ideas, though, and it has worked out for the best. I am not currently active in a band, but I have been in a few before, as well as almost every variation of "Band" a High School has, including a brief stint in a Drum Corps.

My current setup consists of Gretsch Catalina Birch drums and Sabian cymbals. The hardware is mostly Gibraltar (on a rack) with a few other things thrown in, most notably a DW double pedal and a Pearl remote hi-hat (which is actually used for my main hi-hat). I have snares from Pearl, Gretsch, and Mapex Black Panther. All this is set up in a spare bedroom in my house in Connecticut.

My influences have included a staggering number of drummers over the years, and my tastes in music fluctuate from time to time. Currently, I would list Jason Rullo (Symphony X), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Andreas Lill (Vanden Plas), and Jukka Nevalainen (Nightwish) among the top influences. I also enjoy listening to Daniel Adair (Nickelback) and Mike Wengren (Disturbed), along with a few others from that vein of music. And drummers like Tommy Lee, Lars Ulrich, Trot Lucketta, and Nicko McBrain have been influences since the frist day I sat behind a drum set.

I also play some guitar and bass, and have tried my hand at didgeridoo and bagpipes.

one really odd fact about yourself? Ha! 3 yrs ago at a high school football game,(my son is on the drumline) None of the snare drummers showed up. Me and the drumline instructor strapped up and marched into the stadium and into the stands playing the cadence! I had attended most of the practices and knew the snare parts. My friends at the game about fell out when they saw me playing. Brought back memories of 25 yrs ago when I played on the drumline at that same stadium.

Greetings all from a wet and windy London, UK !

Just found this amazing site and forum ! which planet have I been on all this time I hear you ask ?
My names Mark, I'm 40 and have been playing since I was about 14 at school ! Been in a few bands over the years, mostly covers bands with a few originals thrown in, currently play in a covers band doing the usual weddings, pubs etc its a laugh but doesn't really stretch me as a drummer (when you've played a song a 1000 times you tend to go into autopilot ;) )

I currently play Yamaha 6 piece stage custom standard in natural maple, Zildjian crash, ride & China boy cymbals, Sabian hats. Also have a Yamaha DTX lll which I use for smaller venues and when im feeling to lazy to lug my acoustic kit around ;) (its my age)

Anyway glad to be hear and looking forward to picking your collective brains !

Cheers
Mark.

Hi All. Where to start!
My name is obvious, so no need for that! I'm 42, a family man, and haven't played for about 25 years! (Cars, Girls etc). I am about to change that, having just ordered (as a Christmas pressie from the Mrs and family) a nice new Hart Virtuoso E kit, with upgraded hi-hat and snare, a Roland TD6 Module, plus a very lovely Iron Cobra double pedal in chrome (which came today).
So.. it's gonna be a fun time over the next few months. I know my timing sucks big time, as I demoed a Roland TD3 a couple of weeks back, but I can still thrash around ok, so I'll get there!
If only ekits had been this good years ago, and I may have restarted sooner!
Anyway, my main influences vary because of ther big gap in my playing years, but Paice, Philips, Bonham, Powell from back then, and Portnoy, Paul Bostaph, Vinnie Paul, Dave MacLean, from the modern era.
I am a complete metal head by the way, and love the really heavy stuff in the main, but my metal taste is very wide. If it's good, I'll like it!
So, I look forward to being a member here, and hope to contribute, as well as pick some brains if needed.
