Here are a couple of songs (of other peoples) that I played on, they recorded first then I came in later to drum. Let me know what you think.
There are some embarrassing mistakes in here, some parts where the groove isn't locking in, disappointed but that's something to think about for next time.
I think it came out pretty well for my starter kit. Snare is Pearl Brass Piccolo 13 x 3. I think my most solid drumming was track 13 and track 9 was the most fun.

Gust, I'm so totally impressed by you, man!
You play like a much older, experienced player ( thats a compliment, and quite a surprise to me ). Your groove/time is rock solid and your fills & thrills are totally under control and understated- perfect for the songs you were playing.
If I HAVE to try and add something constructive to my comments I would say that in song 1: explore the different textures of the hi-hat while playing a straight up 4/4. It adds, without taking away, if you know what I mean.
In song 2: I'd explore some interesting bass drum spaces within the groove you were playing. The tune seem set up for that... maybe they were there, and I couldn't hear it..
..all in all, fantastic! I hope you get to record some of the stuff, i know you'd like to do personally too. I'd love to hear that.
PS- the Yammie brass piccolo sounded great! LOL ( I know you hated it for a while... )

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it, also glad I could finally get some good quality recordings to you. Thanks for the comments :)
yeah, i was happy with the way the snare turned out, not what i was expecting form a piccolo. I recorded about 6 tracks, and it's really interesting to hear how different one drum can sound when it's been tweaked for 6 different songs
keep it simple

Nothing wrong with that drumming Gusty. Always very difficult to lay a drum track down over an existing recording. I hate that. I think you did very well.
I use a 14" x 3" Pearl brass floating shell piccolo. A hugely under rated snare in my opinion. I've been using piccolo snares for 30 years, mostly in a driving rock environment. It cuts like nothing else live and is a super versatile recording drum. I have other snares of very high quality but I always come back to the Pearl for live work. Your piccolo sounded great. No need to replace that any time soon.

Yeah, they're good drums. Pretty good for jazz and for everything else I play it's great.

Any comments on how the drums came out?
