Quite superb Charlie. Great skills, loads of restraint. I love groove based solo's. I especially liked your Nuaunce solo. I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot more from you. A real breath of fresh air!

Thanks man, that is what I like hearing. I made this solo to be a "drummers" drum solo. Not over the top flashy, but not too bland either. Tried to make it a song with a beginning, a few varied "verse/chorus" sections, and an ending. I record these under heavy time pressure so It is one of those things where I could re-record this a billion times with an improvement with each take, but I have to just be happy with what comes out and end it.
Yeah Nuaunce turned out well I really like that too, I have a solo that is very similar to that one that is audio only up at www.myspace.com/commotuscharlie called tote-road hunt, its quite due to crappy myspace compression but if you have a rockin stereo you crank it up and man it sounds cool.
Keep checking my you tube because i will have HD versions up of this solo, another "jojo mayer " type solo, and then 2 prog metal tunes. Thanks again, and send it to your drummer buddies!

Hey man yeah I haven't worked with anyone big, yet....:-) I work for a few producers who call me when they need me, I go in, record, get paid, and leave. I also teach and do clinics.
Yeah I definately enjoy Terry. Grew up on prog metal like Rush, Dream Theater, Tool and then sort of mixed that style with alot of latin, funk, world type stuff and that is sort of how my style developed for now anyway. Now days I am real into Weckl, Colaiuta, JoJo Mayer, and Gavin Harrison. And do enjoy the skills of Minnemann, Lang, and Donati. Thanks again.

You have just convinced me to buy a pair of Broomsticks.
Your drums sound great, and your playing is awesome. I love the three drums off to your left, Marco Minneman-style. What are the specs, including recording equipment? Sounds like you're using some top-notch A/D...

I'm not a technical drummer or know much theory, ore of straight solid player, but I can really appreciate this. Love the tribal sounding tom grooves with the double kick behind it.

Yeah I won those broomsticks and kinda laughed at them, until I started using them, every drummer can find something to love about them.
Drums are DW 8x7,10x8,12x9,14x14 toms, 5.5x 14 steel snare, and 20x20 kick.
little guys on left are 6 and 8 inch roto toms mountd with LP clamps on a 10 in pacific snare that i use as a timbale type tom.
cymbals are a mix of sabians aa and aax. Radia mini hats, and the right side splash is a paiste dimensions.
heads are Evans G2 clear on top ( I do go coated emporer quite a bit) remo ambassador on bottom. remo coated reverse dot on snare.
MXL overheads, a mini AKG condenser on regular hats, and all audix on toms and other condensers. a D112 and a shure kick mic (forget the model, but its their main kick model) on the kick.
Once I get the HD version that will clean up the sound alot, when you hear the regular version of the video it is much better, but whatever. I am happy with the sound considering we didnt go super in depth on tuning and placement. Just wanted a good live sound. Thanks for watching.

Beta 52? That's an unusual combination. Sounds good though, from what I can hear.

HA, that is just to get people to actually take their time to watch them, maybe to get a chance to spite me for saying that :-) You have to somehow get the point across that the quality of video isn't just a static camera in a basement, if you get what I mean. SO thanks for watching!

At first I was a little pissed,,I'm an old guy that uses a cheap ($116) videocamera in his basement. But I gave a listen anyway.
I'm glad I did. You are very good. Let's forget for a minute your access to top of the line multicamera videoediting and absolutely superb drum micing and recording. It was your hihat work that first got me. I loved how you had the auxilary hats (where those 10"?) within easy reach of your main hats so you could run patterns off both. I would love to be in my 20s again with your talent, and you are going about it the right way, top quality all the way.
I was doing progressive music, actually Yes and King Crimson copy stuff in LA before you were born. I've played drums for over 50 years. You are a top tier player right now. Keep the promotion up, build a great portfolio and keep trying new things, not just what you hear other guys doing.
I'll do my little school clinics and street festival solo gigs and be happy with that. You keep pushing what you are doing. I was impressed.
