George Kollias and Tim Waterson have some clips that show them using the SWIVEL TECHNIQUE on the bass drum pedal on You Tube. I seems to me that they are getting amazing results with that technique and I am totally impressed with that.

Are any of you either using or working on the swivel technique?

I'd like to hear some comments about the technique.

My theory is that your foot just naturally starts to swivel at certain speeds. It's not something to practice. You just let it happen when it happens and it saves some energy because you are alternating muscle groups you use.

And yes, my feet also swivel at certain tempos and especially when I'm not totally in control of the tempo. And by control I mean that I can improvise more than just single or double stroke rolls on that speed.

Don't overthink the swivel technique. Its something that just happens naturally, if you try to think about it and make it happen you often end up exaggerating the motion which is detrimental to both your playing and the health of your knees and ankles. It should only happen at very high tempos, say 230 and up.
