The Roland V drum snare drum sounds greeat IMO. Does anyone know what snare drum was used to get the sample for that sound? Size, model, material? Just curious.

Afaik Roland modules still are based on synthetic models, there are no samples.

00S is right - Roland use modelling software for all their kits. Yamaha use sound samples.

The beauty of the Roland system is that it is infinitely tweakable, ie diff snare diameters and depths and skins etc.

I agree with what you are saying...regarding Roland not using real sound samples...but was wondering where you found this information....?

It is stated in their blurb on the Roland website. Roland use COSM modelling software to emulate the sound of the drum/cymbal. They use this so you can model not only regular drum tones but also dub, synth bass etc tones. On the better models you can change the diameter of the cymbals and drums and basically fiddle around like mad. Obviously with a sample-based system, as used by Yamaha, you cannot do this.
