Click tracks

Hi

This coming summer i am going to be venturing round local studios as a session drummer, i am 17 and i have been playing now for about 6 years. i currently practice just using songs on my ipod were i have to compete with another drummer (wich as we know can lead to misjudging speed)

what i am looking for is a few drumless click tracks that i can practice with so i can get a feel for how it will be in the studio.

if you have something could you throw it up for me, the style of music doesn't matter as i want to practice with.

When using a click, it's not normally drumless. In fact, most drummers prefer a simple sequence to a straight click, as it's easier to play with 'another drummer' than just to a metronome.

I workout with a Tama Rhythm watch for about 10 min. a day. It helps a lot. Just playing a simple beat and staying on with the click. Try that for a few weeks and you should get adjusted.

i always play along with a metronome and i have never had a problem with playing with one.

i was just looking to see if anyone had any drumless click tracks so i can practice how it will be in the studio. now i know that i won't be playing along to a track with drums already on it, thats why i am hesitant to use my ipod and metronme.

I am confused by your post. What do you think a "click track" is? The term "click track" is used for a track that is used in the studio to go to the drummer's monitor (ear phones, usually), that keeps him/her steady. Most drummers like more elaborate ones, as Bermuda mentioned, like a basic drum beat that you play along with. Others, such as myself, perfer just a quarter not being hit repeatedly. For whatever reason, I find that I lock in much better to a cowbell sound than any other. Still other drummers prefer just a straight metronome track (something like the "Ding Click Click Click" that you might hear when you use a metronome.

That's all that a click track is. Playing along with a click track is the same as playing along with a metronome, except for the afforementioned possible different sounds uesd. So if you have a metronome, you are playing along with a click track.

when i mean drumless i mean a pre recorded tack (mius drums) so with just a metronome, a click, a cow bell. Hell i am sure you could shake a leaf to 120bpm and put it over a song and i will have no problem drumming to it.



maybe what i should be asking for is if anyone has a some pre recorded music (minus drums) but with a metronome set to the correct bpm for that song

IMO:

If you want to get better at keeping time play along with a click track.

Even without drums you will still be "following" the music if you use music minus drums..

To get better at keeping time, keep groove to a straight click track. There is something inherent about this that trains your muscles, both physical and mental. Plus, if you are going to record, you must learn to live by the click...

Thanks for the link, Chip. That's better than the one I've been using which only has pre-set levels stepping up by 4pm.
