Vater and Zildjian Brushes

I am not sure which way to go when it comes to choosing a good pair of brushes, but I know I want either Vater or Zildjian. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences they would like to share regarding Vater and Zildjian brushes?

I used Zildjians for a long time.

I use Vater 5b Gospel, and tons of different Vic firths, but when it comes to brushes, pro-mark is win. the difference isn't too huge, but it's enough.

brush Fire Percussion Jazz Brushes are brilliant. They are the same ones that gene and buddy used........and they have no logo

Try as many as you can. 1 brand to check out that is never mentioned is Liverpool baquetas, from Brasil. Great products!

i have the Vater brushes, they work well with no problems and have a nice feel, my only beef is that they are not adjustable, so they are "spread" open all the way and sometimes being able to adjust them - make them more narrow, would be nice - something to look for...

A few months ago I began to use the Zildjian brushes with the 90 degree bent brush ends. I think that they call them Rakes or something like that. They are great! If you play them with the rake ends down they make a louder scratch on the heads and a louder swish on the cymbals. You can turn them over and get a traditional brush sound. The wires are slightly thicker than most brushes also.
You can flip one brush rake up, and one rake down as you play to get different sounds.

I have played many brushes in the past and I really like these. They also have an excellent bounce to them!

Regal Tip brushes are also worth a try. I'm not too fond of Vic Firth or Promark brushes but they could be what you are looking for. BrushFires are nice if you are looking for a light brush

I never liked Vater's multi-percussion stuff. Sure the sticks are killer, but everything else is cheap...

I would go with Regal Tip, they have been the leader in brushes for 50 years (in fact they make brushes for 2 or 3 of the other major companies)
