(The clarinet player hasn't been edited into the video yet <_< just me)

But yeah. I'm 20, been playing drums for about 3 to 4 years. Self-taught... it probably shows. I do tend to let my arms go a bit.

I don't consider myself an amazing drummer in the slightest but it's good fun... so that's the main thing for me :)

P.S. Me and my clarinet player wrote this in the midst of a powercut in our flat (apartment for all you Americans)... hence the name.

excellent! you're a pretty talented dude. you're right about it being "rocky jazz". it's obvious you know how to play rock drums, but you have a really nice touch and feel too.

Really appreciate the nice words.

Superb!! Great to hear a young player with buckets of feel and good musicality. Nice rock fills and not a double pedal in sight!!! My natural style is a heavy funky jazz rock but I've played rock most of my life so I really appreciate your style. Don't apologise for being self taught. It shows, but in a very positive way. You haven't got any of that stiff structure that can so often hold back feel. Remember, feel, dynamics, interpretation & performance are the most important skills you'll ever master and far more important than technical ability. Good luck, I think you'll go far and have fun on the journey.

Wow, thanks for the such kind words :-)

But, I did use a double pedal on the fills at 0:22 and 1:30. >_< I could've probably achieved it with a single though as I practiced for a single for years and got quite speedy with the ol' double hits.

I was just tired >_>

OK, I got the double pedal bit wrong but it doesn't matter. There's no such thing as cheating when playing drums in my opinion. It's whatever helps you perform at your best because it's all about the performance & enjoying making music. I still think you're doing a great job.

I agree with everyone else. Great stuff. A lovely, relaxed feel.

How did you record it? Did you start with guitar and clarinet and then dub the drums and bass?

If you do more tunes by all means post them!

Hehehe, reminds me of an intro to a childrens programme. Well made. Only critique is that your snare is a little drowned. Lacks abit of punch or whack.

Evenstevens280

Snare was drowned out mainly because I made it drowned out on purpose. It recorded with a ringing overtone and I didn't want to shift all my gear back into the drum room to record it again. So I EQ'd most of it away but that got rid of most of the pop, unfortunately.

The clarinet and a rough guitar track were recorded to a metronome whilst I was at university (where I don't have my kit, :-( ). When I got home, I recorded a bass guitar part, then a drum track, then re-recorded the guitar.

Et Voila.

lol - Hilton "liked a lot of man" means something different in English to what you intended but I'm sure everyone knows what you meant to say :)

Thanks for the info, Evenstevens. Again, great job.

I agree w/ the pack here, thoroughly enjoyable, no "see how cool I am" or "see how technical I am", just fun man, just fun. This made me smile so hard, my head seperated into 2 parts.

Hey 2Bsticks, I've been meaning to ask you, do you really use 2B's all the time?

2bsticks
09-06-2009, 10:49 PM
Funny you should ask. For years it was 2B nylon tip by Regal Tip. Right after I joined MD I switched over to Vic Firth 5B wooden tip. The truth is out.

I just listened and it's wonderful. Very well written and easy to listen to. I love the Clarinet and that's unusual because you don't hear it that often in Jazz anymore, at least in the states. You all need to let the public hear you all play, they'd enjoy it! Thanks for posting.
