So anytime I have considered buying a new set of heads I have always gotten G2 clears for the majority of my toms. My friend suggested making the switch to pinstripes and he raved about them. Basically I would like to know your experiences with either head and if someone could give me a comparison it would be lovely. I plan on outfitting my fusion kit from 10"-14" drums with all new Remo heads and wanted to know how i should expect these new heads to sound and what your experiences tuning them are. Thanks!

.....My friend suggested making the switch to pinstripes and he raved about them. The G2 is quite similar to the Remo Emperor, in that both are 2 ply 7mm heads. Pinstripes have "built in muffling". You might want to take a listen to your friends kit (and/or borrow one of his Pins to mount on your kit) before you re-head your entire set.

I second what harry said, but i also suggest, like many others will tell you, to buy just one pinstripe to compare with the G2, or whatever other head you are debating on using. Unless you have the same exact kit with the same exact tuning skills as you friend, chances are you won't have the same exact sound that your friend gets out of his drums. Plus, it's all about what you want out of your kit.

I've played G2 clears for many years, Emperor clears before that. For me, the G2's lasted longer before head changes. The EC2 Clear sounds a little more lively to me over the G2 and have been playing them for a little over a year now.
I agree on trying one head at a time as Budiesel suggested.
If you are looking for a little more lively head, try the EC2 (tuning = easy)
If you want a lot less overtones try the Pinstripe. (tuning = very easy)

Hey guys! Thanks so much for your input but I actually just got the heads on and am super happy with the sound of my toms and the powerstoke 3 rocks on the bass drum. It sounds so open and powerful while still retaining the deep thud I love. The pinstripes are IMO my new perfect tom head. All I did was tune the batter up past the wrinkle and the bottom a bit higher and the drums sounded beautiful right off the back. Loving these heads.
