Obviously, this page displays some information about this head, but I'd like to see some comments from anybody who has used them, or heard them.
http://www.remo.com/portal/products/3/8/49/157/cl_powerstroke4.html
1.) Can the head produce a large range of tones?
2.) Is it durable?
3.) Does it require muffling?
And any additional information on the drumhead would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

The Powerstroke 4 is basically an Emperor with a built-in muffling ring (and a very wide one). Because of that, I don't imagine it would need any external muffling at all. As far as durability is concerned, I'm sure it will last a long time if you take care of it. I've had the same set of Emperors on my toms for the past 6 months, and they still sound great. Remo says that this is the darkest-sounding head they make, and I think it would be best suited to lower tunings; due to the muffling ring, it would probably choke if you tried to bring it up to "jazz " tuning.

So.....
Do you think this would be a proper head for Heavy/Thrash Metal drumming?

Remo will probably discontinue the PS4 line. They don't have many redeeming qualities. The tuning range is poor, larger tom sizes almost worthless. Who knows? You may love them.
Emperor strong. Some people will muffle anything. I always tell people you can cut the internal ring out if its too much. Would not use these again though.

I use the PS4 as a batter on my 18" kick. I don't need to do any further muffling.

Why would you say they will probably discontinue it? The PS4 has been around a lot of years and isn't going any where. Trust me on this one.

Been around a lot of years? Not really, not long enough for the market to do it in. Its not like Remo needs any special materials to make this model, which will be its only saving grace however long it lasts.
