Hi,

I was donated a 1960-64 Sonor teardrop from an old ladys garage. Its a little rusty but playable. I'm making it usable as a kit but its not worth a full restore. I do however have some of the original skins, in good condition.

Being new to vintage drums, is this the kind of thing any restorers would be interested in?

also i need to put the kit on my insurance but have no idea of its value.Any advise or even a ball part figure would help tons. i have the bass drum, tom and floor tom.

It is worth a full restore. I'm not sure of monetary value, but those kits are stunning and if you don't restore it, you'll be doing yourself a massive disservice. To be donated one is pretty special, they can be very hard to come across. Be patient and restore.

As for heads, go for single ply coated or double ply. Personally, I would go for single ply. Something like Remo Ambassadors.

i have cleaned and derusted as much as i can and there are no missing parts. it works fine but will never be a shining example of its kind without hunting down all new rims as the chrome is badly marked.
i do love the simplicity of its design and i'm torn between getting an new bass drum head for the front as its the original 1960's sonor one at the minute and it looks kinda cool but it would be a shame if it got broken in the process of gigging with the type of bands i play with. It should be in a museum!
