Decided to set the drums up in the back yard after mowing the grass.
After one month of serious practice with traditional grip, I can play nearly as fast as what 17 years of matched grip has gotten me. I definitely enjoy having another grip in my arsenal. JoJo Mayer says on his DVD it will make me look like I know what I'm doing. Bonus.
The kit is a Gretsch Catalina Birch, fusion. 22x18, 10x8, 10x12.
Snare is a PDP piccolo, Evans genera dry over a 300 hazy, 12 strand snare. This thing is under high tension. Great snare drum for drum n' bass. Bad for....just about everything else.
20" ZBT ride, extensive re-hammer. More stick definition, darker and less overwhelming wash...a hint of trash.
18" ZBT crash, also hammered.
14" ZBT hats....you guessed it, hammered.
13" cut down Meinl crash over a 14" no-name reverse china. Fantastic effect, it's like the illegitimate love-child of a china, a trash, and loose hi hats.
Alright drummerworld, hit me with the truth here.
Am I the next buddy rich? Is my technique more important than my feel? Is jazz better than rock? Is Sabian better than Zildjian? Should my toms be flat or angled? Macaroni and cheese, or ramen noodles?!
there, that should get some interesting replies
