Does anyone have any idea whether or not the thick black lug washers, that come stock with the Gretsch Renown maple snares, affect the overall resonance/tone/sound quality of the drum? I took the factory evans heads off the top and bottom and replaced them with my usual REMO Ambassador coated on top and diplomat hazy on bottom. The drum sounds pretty good, but does the plastic washer affect the tuning tension. They're awfully thick washers. The standard metal washers are still there also? Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I would sincerely doubt that 99% of the human ears would notice the difference. I don't have that snare but a Renown set and would not want to have the drums without the washers.

I was thinking of just putting the standard metal ones on. When tuning I found that the washer seemed to turn smoothly making the tension feel a lot looser than it actually was. These are heavy 10 ply shells, anyone played one? I am accustomed to my 1969 Blue Sparkle Ludwig; much lighter. They don't make drums like they used to... I like some of the advances, but the classic craftsmanship is still tops!

OK I am confused. Are you talking about the washers on the tension screws or the gaskets between the lugs and the shell. I was referring to the gaskets betwween the shell and the lugs. If by lugs you mean tension screws, I put white nylon ones aon the batter head of all of my snares for ease of tuning. Some will argue that it causes de-tuning but I have no problem with that.
