I bought a bottle of crazy john's cymbal cleaner and thought it might be cool if i show some before and after pics. Tried an all over cover on my pretty decrepid set of zbt hats, including on the zildjian ink, so u can see a the difference.

so heres before :

and after:

as you can see, some pretty grubby little marks have most certainly been taken away, and the ink is also removed to some extent, but this was with some heavy scrubbing really! It was crazy to see how much grime came off, my hands were literally blackened from it all!

I also did my k custom, session ride, and u can cleary see the difference between where i cleaned and where i didnt (this time i really didnt wanna ruin the names on the cymbal). ill probably carefully go over those areas with a small cloth and maybe some cotton buds.

So heres my ride cymbal,

well i hope this is useful for anyone wondering about how clean they can get their cymbals and whether or not their logos may get wiped. Soundwise, its certainly brightened up the tone and projection a little bit, like theyve been given their brilliant finish all over again :D

looks great, but reminds me of when I sprayed my 14" A custom fast crash with some groove juice and then forgot about it for awhile. By the time I wiped the stuff off, my cymbal had an odd sheen and a totally distorted, painful sound.

Looks like you're doing a little better than I did though!

i think the pics are slightly outta focus, they were that reflective :P i just did the bottom hi hat and i left some on a bit too long and it looks a bit funny, but its really rejuvinated the sound of the cymbal. the ride is almost exactly the same sound as when i first bought it too.

Groove Juice is amazing stuff. I clean my cymbals every month or two. You could clean around the logos with a toothbrush or something if you wanted to. Personally, I don't like all the writing on modern cymbals. I would prefer "Zildjian" on the bottom and the model name written under the bell on the bottom so you could tell what you were buying. Of course they could start laser etching the things like they do the stamps, then we wouldn't have to worry about this.

But that would take all the fun out of it!

I didn't realize how bad my Paiste's had become until I cleaned one of them and then compared it to the ride... The 2002 16" crash looked pretty good ( I've had it since 1983).
