Metal? Well if you're playing really hard then maybe get a set of Emps/G2s over your standard sort of G1/Diplomat resos. 2 ply heads are more durable plus they have more attack. This should also be in heads/sticks.

For Metal Hardcore and Punk, I'd always go with kalfskins. They just have more tone to it you know...
