What is the drummer playing on?

It looks like a cajon that is turned on its side and mounted being played with mallets. I’ve never seen them played this way. I’ve always seen the drummer sitting on the cajon like a stool playing it on the sides with their hands. I have messed around with them in stores but I do not own one. I think they have a cool sound to them.

It does indeed look like a Cajon and like the previous poster said I've never seen one played that way.
