What is the difference in sound between the EC1 and the EC2 heads? They are the same thickness, just one is 1 ply and the other is 2. Is it the feel?

I play rock and funk and like a tom that explodes and decays quickly. Do either of these heads do that?

I'd been using the EC2 Clear for a few years, and then tried the EC1. I thought it had a stiffer feel and didn't sound as sweet as the EC2. I suggest trying one of each on a tom that's easy to tune so you can hear and feel for yourself. But my recommendation is the EC2 Clear.

^^ Excellent advice: try both on one drum.

Being 2-ply, the EC2 has less sustain than the EC1, so it's more likely to meet your desire for a quicker decay.

We've been using the EC1s on my kid's kit precisely because we want more sustain, for playing without mics.

I had EC2s on my kit for a while...tough heads. I think they would work better on bigger drums though as they pretty much choked out my 10 and 12 toms. I never really cared for the plastic attack they have plenty of though, but they are more musical that Pinstripe heads. I think the EC2 Coated heads would be better though as they would have a warmer attack

I have a TAMA PERFORMER B/B kit that i use both on. I use ec2 for bats, and ec1, (or ec resos) for the res. has that perfect low end and still lets my toms sing.
