EDIT: BEFORE YOU GO YELLING AT ME "THAT'S NOT HARDCORE", READ THIS:

I consider "hardcore" punk to be old-school stuff like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Black Flag, 7 Seconds, etc. "regular" punk is stuff like the Ramones, the Clash, and the Sex Pistols.

I consider stuff like 25 Ta Life, Hatebreed, the Bled, or other bands like that to be metalcore, not hardcore punk.

so basically I'm going by the "old" definition of hardcore, and not the "new" definition of hardcore.

kthxbai. (END EDIT)

check out my band: http://www.myspace.com/onegoodcitizen

we're a 3-piece band that plays hardcore punk and the occasional ska song.

we have our 4 song demo up on our MySpace... it's a little rough, because we recorded it when we were still trying to get the songs down. so there are a couple mistakes here and there. but we give out copies of our demo for free at our shows, so what do you expect? haha

and the reason the recording quality sucks is because we recorded it in my basement with a digital camera... XD

we're going to do a real record later this year (hopefully). some people I'm freinds with a own recording studio and record label, Mob Front Records, and they are making us a part of their label. (check out http://www.myspace.com/mobfrontrecordsandstudio)

but first, we have to get through our 4-day tour around the state (Wisconsin) in early August. man that's gonna be awesome. we're going on tour with fellow Mob Front Records punk band the Disabled, so it should be a great time.

anyway, tell me what you think. thanks

it was alright...

all the songs sounded the same (to me anyway) except for "paper youth"

and that was more just "punk" rather than "hardcore punk" which has heavier riffs and vocals

and the drumming was kind of off on "machine gun"

that depends on your definition of "hardcore".

I think the "hardcore" you're thinking of is something more along the lines of 25 Ta Life, Hatebreed, or other metalcore bands like that.

They're good recording's considering it's from a digital camera. You here some new bands on myspazz that go to an amateur producer and the recordings are worse than yours! (I find I can get an alright sound from my rockband mic! :P)

Before I read the other post I too thought it sounds more like punk. The term hardcore (heavier riffs/screaming like metalcore) is short for hardcore punk as far as i know and it derives from the typical genre of punk.

I'm not an expert by any means though, just my 2 cents.

I like it, it was way better quality than I thought it would be. Not a huge fan of the vocals though.

Also, I prefer to call stuff like this "hardcore punk" and call stuff with a lot of breakdowns and drop d tuning "Hardcore".

if you consider Dead Kennedys to be hc punk, then yes, i'm into it.

i thought you guys sounded like the ramones, so thats why i said it wasnt hardcore.

i would consider hardcore punk to include much more distortion in the guitars, screaming, and a lot louder drums.

Kinda like early Nirvana, The Melvins, Scream, Bad Brains, some of the Foo Fighters heavier stuff.

if you actually want to know what i'm talking about (which you probably dont lol) then i would suggest youtubing Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings" or Foo Fighter's "Monkey Wrench
or The Vines' "Get Free" or The Subways' "Rock n Roll Queen."

those are some of the stuff im talking about. although they aren't hardcore punk bands, they have, what i consider, hardcore punk songs

this thread is getting way off-topic... XD

don't get me wrong:
those are all good songs, especially Rock 'n Roll Queen. I love the Subways. but I would consider the Subways more garage rock though. yeah they're heavy, but they just don't have the speed to be considered punk.

and none of those bands are punk rock... they're all good bands but they're more like post-punk/garage rock if anything. influenced by punk, yes, but bands like Metallica and Motorhead were influenced by punk too and I don't think anyone would consider them punk. there's a big difference between "influenced by punk" and actual punk rock.

but!!!
on the other hand, who really cares about labels... whatever you call it, it's all just variations of rock 'n roll, guys! the music's the important thing, not the label.

to yjb63: I agree with the difference between "hardcore punk" and "hardcore" thing.

and to AveyTare, yes, Dead Kennedys are a great hardcore punk band!

yeah, i said none of them were punk bands, but they have hardcore punk songs.

i agree that labels are stupid, especially ones like "grunge" where each band sounds totally different from each other

I like the music I'm a big punk fan my self. And I thought the recordings were great they sounded real unlike the polished up crap they make now a days.
