Hi everyone! Has anyone ever played something accidentally one day and this has lead to a whole branch of learning from it?

I remember when i was in a band once i replaced a drummer who started a song with a marching snare beat but i had no idea how to play it so i started messing about with hand patterns trying to get this drum beat and all of a sudden i did it once and thought hey this works great so i kept doing it, turns out i had just stumbled on the six stroke roll. I didn't even know what it was until i saw it transcribed in Modern Drummer magazine.

Ever since, i play fills utilising it, bell patterns, grooves, it has greatly helped me with ruffs too and its funny cause it was completely accidental.

I'm interested to see if anyone has had a similar experience.

oh yeah! that's happened to me millions of times! if i stumble into something cool sounding by accident or random experimentation i'll play it over and over again to try to burn it in. sometimes i'll even write it down.

I can't think of any specific examples, but I know this has happened to me on many occasions.

This happened to me a lot when i was learning to write. It's actually a very good excersise. Listen to something, write it out (most of the time wrong), play what you've written, repeat.

all the time...the key is capturing it and remembering it....that's it good to recorder everything. Denis
