I'm trying to get of this ringing on all of my drums. What's the best substitue for moon gel. Or what can I do to get rid of that ringing sound on my kit?

RemO's do a good job of dampening the ringing tone of a drum I use them on my drums most of the time http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Remo-12131416-RemORing-Dampening-Pack?sku=446710

Given that moon gel is a substitute for duct tape, it would seem the logical substitute for moon gel would be:

duct tape.

The best substitute is tuning your drums well. If you just use muffling to conceal bad tuning, you're wasting most of the potential of the sound of your drums.

Ditto the Zam man on this one. I use to have the Doctor Scholls look but after learning to tune, and it took a while, I am now without Gellin. some ring is OK if you want your drums to project.

Let um ring dude. A moon gel on the snare is OK. Unless you are putting mics on the toms and recording, you should need to muffle them.

Why would there be a need for a substitute. Is moongel not good enough? iT's only like 5 bucks.

I read that sticky hands do the job nicely.

Those look kind of cheesy to me. Look cheesy, most likely work okay.

I use office putty. It's sticky and comes in white, light blue, yellow, etc. It's not messy and can be broken into pieces of whatever size you need and shaped according to need. You can put it on snare, toms and bass as needed. I use it mainly on cymbals because I play A Customs and somtimes they are too bright.

As others have pointed out, you should really focus on correct tuning, especially using thicker heads. I don't believe in dampening much, or stuffing pillows, blankets and mattresses into the bass drum kill its sound. Correct tuning and, possibly, thicker heads will allow all your drums to sing out.
