I was in the front row when I saw Cozy do his 1812 Overture solo with Rainbow. He was strong technically and a dynamic showman. Whatta buzz!
Still, my main memory of Cozy (apart from him being a major hunk) was his drumming with the Jeff Beck Group. His playing was was so clean and organised and he came up with some imaginative grooves in Sugar Cane and Ice Cream Cakes (hmm, I'd not thought about Jeff's sweet tooth before :)
No matter which way you look at it, Cozy was a tasty player.

I had a gig in his local pub the night he died.
I also met him a few times, he has allways inspired me.
I have fond memeries.
He was also good friends with bonham. they used to jam together alot. if you anylise there playing next to each other you will see each others playing.

Cozy was awesome...What I really liked about him was the sound he got out of his drums and his feel and vibe he brought to the band stand...He was kind of the Steve Gadd of Hard Rock if not for for inventiveness, definitley in how many people hired him to play....

Cozy had an strong freelance spirit, nice hard beat and ability to adapt to different scenarios. A lot people hired him: Brian May, Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Jeff Beck...

I first saw Cozy do bits and pieces of the 1812 overture when he was with Bedlam in 74. --Awesome album if you can find it-- Everyone could relate to the overture so everyone was in to it. Smart way to create a solo. Everyone anticipating what Cozy was going to do with something everyone could rhythmically and melodically relate to. Genius getting everyone focused like that. Today his skills aren't all that groundbreaking, but they sure were at the time especially when he was with Beck.
Found this classic Cozy with Bedlam:

Upper right hand corner
His foot work was a lot clearer on the studio album.
