I have searched the forum and have found a lot of posts regarding Fiberskyns, but not a direct comparison between Fiberskyns and Renaissance. Can anybody give me some feedback? I want to replace the coated Ambassador that came with my Canopus Zelkova snare. It's a great drum, but I want to warm it up a bit. Also, it's so sensitive that the coated Ambassador sounds too scratchy (and, to my ear, not musical) with brushes. Thanks.

The Renaissance is definitely less "scratchy" than the ambassadors. It won't "warm up" the sound compared to the ambassadors. The only way I can describe the sound difference between the two is that the Renaissance will sound less "plasticy" than the ambassador, if that makes sense. The Fiberskyn is a much further step in that direction, and if you want to take away the sensitivity of the drum, it's the way to go. It's a very dry sound, I'd say bordering on thuddy. Make sure if you get one with fibers that aren't too big or you'll catch your brushes on them!

When I experimented, I found out that I liked different heads on different drums. On some snares, I dig the Fiberskyns, and on others I dig the Renaissances. On most of them, though, I still dig the coated ambassadors...

With a Renaissance it will sound even more sensitive.
