So like many drummers here I'm always working on technique and speed. I just noticed something about my practice routine that I never noticed before? When I work on hand exercizes I'm ALL OVER THE PLACE! I mean I'm doing Master Studies for a few days but then by accident one night I'm doing some brush work so rather than get up and get M.S. I just do Alan Dawson's Rudimental Ritual or maybe I was messing with the pad and just decided to do Charley Wilcoxon's All-American Drummer solo's or Stick Control?

Q: Is it better to stick with one strategy (book) to learn technique and build speed or is it OK to jump in and out of different things? I see where they are all built to do the same thing. I mean Master Studies was born from Stick Control etc... I guess I just don't want to get bored? Thoughts?

I am not a believer in systems. Therefore I don't limit myself to 1 book at a time. Or any other method. If there is something I am having difficulty with I will stick to it until the problem is sorted. But that's about as far as I go. All those books are great and the Wilcoxin book contains things one finds in stick control and master studies. A paradiddle is a paradiddle. And what a great thing it is! :-)
